I'll second the plc vpd 2.0 line of protectors. I've been using them for about 6 months any they've been awesome. The protection for a soft type of pad is excellent and they aren't hot, warm yes, but not hot.

I don't think it has been so much an issue of can it be done, so much as, the choice of dumbing down the tuning options for the majority of riders so they can't screw things up. That assumes that your customers can't tune their own fork or shock which isn't true in the upper performance segment...
