I'm also a fan of the steep SA thing going on right now.
Been on a Fuel 9.9 for the last couple of years, but i'm quite tall so the 'effective' 74.7 puts you fairly far out the back of the bike at full height, with a reasonable reach of 465mm it was certainly spacious though.
Still have the...
That's pretty damn steep, would also be interested to try it, as my current big bike has a 78.2 degree SA, which actually felt like a nice positive on a bike with 500mm reach.
It's a Yeti.
It means it's almost a given it will crack & you, despite being warranty will have an unholy battle to get it sorted out.
You will end up wanting to burn their office to the ground because of their stupidity & ineptitude.
Otherwise, crack on, so to speak.
I'm running a set of DT Swiss XMC1200's on my 29er.
They are lovely & light. I fully expect the rims to be toast within 6 months, as carbon wheels just seem to hack it in the real world. As & when it happens i'll probably rebuild with some Arch Mk3's which have outlasted all the carbon wheels...
FWIW I have an oval ring on my everything bike. When I put it on it felt a bit odd for the first 200 meters of pedalling or so, bow I can't tell the difference. Road bike has round rings, wife's bike has round ring etc. I'll probably buy another as they seem to be cheaper than round rings.
Also...
Another XC rim dude were :)
I must have some deep rooted confusion issues, as I went from 30mm ID carbon rims back to skinny 23mm aluminium ones.
My gnarly XC riding kept breaking the carbon ones.
My 2015 36 was just plain nasty.
Thankfully the cartridge exploded in spectacular fashion (rod snapped & mad a mess internally) so Fox gave me a 2016 fork instead.
That also felt like ass. Rebuilt by Fox twice to try & make it better, I battled that thing for 3 months in Whistler. It was so...
These. For a more AM style shoe, these are by far the most comfortable I have used.
If you want something more XC slipper, but not a full on shiny disco slipper, something like a Specialized Rime is great too.
Other shoes I've tried that aren't so great; 5-10 Minnaar, Spec 2FO & Vans Warner...
I tried a load of different EVOC packs and they were all uncomfortable - the ones with the protectors in them were even worse. The combination of the massive footprint on your back & the super wide waist strap felt like I was being mauled by a fat, sweaty man.
They are also all HUGE! What of...
Is the hub thing an issue? I built up some carbon rims for my Enduro, and used some old DT Swiss 240 hubs. Pulled the end caps off the Roval wheels, chucked them on the DT's & all is fine :)
The Rovals fit DT end caps, so they now live on my HT instead.
The shock mount, I don't really see...
The problem is the RF rings are a standard 104BCD, so won't work with the cranks unless you run a different adapter.
The rings are too expensive though, there are others now doing them in the right BCD (or direct mount) so I imagine SRAM will be forced to reduce costs if they plan on selling...
BOS or X-Fusion are pretty much your only choices, unless you want to wedge a 27.5 wheel in a 36, which won't work with all tyres or be too great in the mud.
I'll be interested to see what running changes are being made to the new Lyrik, considering the Pike is outselling it (and outspec'ing it...
Man, you lot are going to self implode when the new Boxxer comes out!
Shall we play guess what's changing?
Eurobike was cool this year. I spent yesterday cowering in the corner of our stand after drinking my own weight in alcohol the night before. Another late one last night meant the flight...
I know it as that. Great track.
Those berms in the pictures look nice. Although in 3 weeks time with all the PPDS squids, a shed load of rain & a bunch more wobblers braking everywhere they will be full of 12" braking bumps & similiar sized ruts. It's the same every year.
The Celine Gros track, I thought it had been closed now, but with the axle deep rut all the way down it used to a wild one to ride clean.
I think I can get into double figures on the not so secret Pleney tracks, most of which are better than the main line.
The stuff on SM is better IMO...
