Not enough room? You could always grind away the offending part of the Hayes adapter, if you've ever seen one, they're f'ing huge. Would probably work just fine minus some material.
Especially on an '05 frame, Specialized should be all about helping you out. They usually ship the frame at the time of the LBS's claim, before they even have the broken frame in hand. As far as the upgrade though, it's the luck of the draw I would say.
I think that the 4x would be good for you, but why not the LT? It's only .7" more travel. The Blur Classic (old style) would be a terrible jumping bike, and if you put a 120mm fork on it, this will void the warranty.
As for the 4x, a 68.5 headangle is perfect for agressive trail riding.
