So my husband just let me spend 2.5k on bikes (one for me one for him) and they were both discounted by at least 50%, does that mean he dserves to get laid? Hmmmm don't know he did say the condition was that I don't upgrade anylthing! Mind you I've already swapped over all the good bits from my...
Lately it seems I"ve been riding less and less, so I build myself an old Brodie Kinetic frame as an SS. But then we moved to a new town, still small but a bit bigger than the last one at least, although pretty much flat (the other town had a dh track nearby). But I found a new job, it was riding...
5ft7 and had the regular size (13.5") I never did get to dirt jumping but that size seemed doable even for XC type riding, I don't think I'd want a bigger frame for the riding it was meant to do, unless like someone said you tend to prefer longer frames.
Your BB will be significantly lower as well so you might find you hit the pedals a lot more (on rocks or whatever). Honestly that would be the only thing I don't like about making a 26" bike to 24", depending on how high the BB currently is though.
Perhaps a lot of Women are too busy with work and family life to devote enough time to other disciplines. Weather the fellow is into riding or not I imagine that for most women the kids / family would come before "me time".
I think XC is just less time consuming. For DH riding you pretty much...
Yes sorry for the late reply, there was I think the Met Parachute that has the chin guard (don't know how good this is).
One I know of is the Giro Xen which is a relatively popular AM helmet, well it was a few years ago and I'm sure still is. And I think like someone mentioned the Specialized...
Particularly if he is dead set on new, you can get a really great brand new mid spec bmx for the sort of money you would spend on a low to mid level mtb which is used!
I know because I've got a Giant STP and I've recently purchased a nice BMX. The BMX cost me $530Au and all I needed for it was...
You said occasional DH so reading between the lines it sounds like you will be keeping your current helmet for XC and want a cheap Fullface to supplement it for when you do DH riding on occasion or when you otherwise think you should wear it.
As above I think 661 is probably worth looking into...
I've primarily experimented with a Giant STP, it's a DJ hardtail that I've used for XC type riding and I've ran everything from 80mm to 150mm travel. I don't think the geometry was a huge issue at 150 it's more the high feeling front end (yes with relatively low handlebars...like 1.5" rise).
If...
Well Alexis it's people like you that make this world a better place.
Yeah if the group ahead didn't realize that the guys behind had crashed / had issues then it's understandable but I still would have expected them to walk back up and look for them rather than sitting there for 3hrs just...
I'm 5ft7 and had an Orange 222 as my DH rig. In regards to weight it was great, relatively light especially compared to a friends Iron Horse. I just wanted to chime in and say that if she is a beginner and not that great at DH then a single pivot such as Orange might not be that great for her...
My experience is that I've had both a '07 Giant Alias and '08 STP 0
Both bikes are good bikes for the money but they are aimed at different styles of riding:
Alias:
Obviously an XC hardtail with XC geometry and build
It felt good to ride and easy to lift the front wheel with a short stem...
.........bah he's already decided on 26" so be it. Besides BMXes are cheap enough, even if he decided to sell his mtb at a later stage he could probably buy a top notch bmx and maybe have some change over.
Are most of the parts stock? Or has he used all the good parts to put on another bike?
I know the STP 3 comes with the lowest spec but if it's got V Brakes it's either very old or was potentially purchased relatively cheap as a parts donor for another bike!!!
And to whoever said the frame was...
I reckon that paint stripper is viable for stripping a bike, but for handlebars you're probably better off just sanding the paint off, it might be a good idea to leave the paint where the stem covers it too, then you still have the centering lines etc.
I stripped mine by sanding them but I left...
I had both set ups, X7 trigger on the DH bike and X7 twist shifter on the other bike. When I whittled my steeds to one bike only (the HT which I will use for a bit of DH and anything else) I chose to keep the trigger shifting.
I agree on grip choice being one of the main issues, I used trimmed...
