Local guy and fellow wheelbuilder Merlyn does this quite frequently. While I havent sent anything to the lab, he claims that it helps equalize the tension.

Oh...so they have ceramics engineers that are able to do things that no one else in the world can? Maybe that is why their overly complicated, finicky parts cost so much. Now I understand :rolleyes:
Anyone that claims that the new offerings from Shimano are lesser products than Avid obviously haven't set the brakes up properly. Or don't know how to properly evaluate brakes.
Or have sniffed too much tubular glue.
Been using the new stuff from Bontrager for a few months now. Seems to set up and work better initially that others I have tried. I would go as far as to say I prefer it to Stan's.
Long-term opinion is still in the making.

For example, I have built over 2k wheelsets. I label mine as handbuilt. I also guarantee spoke breakage for life.
My junior mechanic also has built some wheels. He would also label them as handbuilt.

Been riding this tire for about 3 months. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.
Great traction in all terrain, good grip.
Less than stellar wear however. The team issues are softer compound and have noticeably faster wear than the standards...but, duh.
