Specialized makes a great tire. If you want a slick, check out the Roubaix Pro 2Bliss. Labeled 32, it runs wide and is 36mm+ on my rims. Super capable tire, good on fast road rides, very durable and easily handles as much gravel as a slick tire can, including light singletrack. If you want...
Yeah, we don't have any climbs like that around here. If I lived out there I'd be on a 2x, or at least running the XPLR cassette.
This is the fastest road bike I've owned, by a long shot. I've done zero intensity on the trainer this winter and this bike is carrying me through any fast group...
Mentioned this in another thread, figured I'd post it up.
52 cm Tarmac SL8 Pro frame, I built it up as follows:
Rival shifters/brakes
Force cranks, chain, cassette (10-36) and derailleur (XPLR)
Alugear chainring (46t)
Enve AR bars (40cm)
Pro Stealth saddle
Light Bicycle WR45 rims on DT Swiss...
Nice. My WR35/45s are a cinch to set up tubeless. I use tape, since I have spoke holes, but the rest is the same even with the tubeless GP5000s. Standard floor pump, sometimes I use a tire lever because I'm lazy, but I can mount them without. They're snug, but not too tight to remove by...
FWIW, the SL8 was a super easy build. Plenty of room in the bb and the headset routing is well thought out and simple. Just making myself feel better about my purchase, haha. Bike looks great!
Nice, can't wait to see pics of the build. I've been riding the WR45s on 240s (the old style) for years and they've done everything I've asked and done it well. Pictures of deeper rims always make me start looking at other options, but I have no real reason for that. I don't race either, and...
Sick, can't wait to see it. That was on my radar but I went a different direction and picked up an SL8 frameset.
Which rims did you choose?
Tough time of year to get a new road bike, it's been wet and cold most weekends around here.
Thanks. The color really grew on me. Never would have picked it if there was a different option, but I love it now.
After work rides are usually 30ish miles. Weekends are for longer rides, but I haven't made a real long ride happen lately.
It's mostly rolling around here, too, so 1x works...
Yeah, I'm pretty on top of battery charging, and I have a spare to carry for longer rides. I have spare shifter batteries in my ride kit I take every ride.
1x all the things, of course the gravel bike is 1x. These wheels/tires are the road mode.
I converted my road bike to a 1x over the winter to see how it works. Went with a 46t chainring and an 11-36t cassette. 12 speed would be better, but this is honestly fine (I just wish somebody made a nice 11-36 11 speed cassette). I've taken it on some pretty good climbs in our river hills...
I finally picked up some new S TRs and set them up a couple of weeks ago. On my rims, they were definitely tighter and harder to mount than the prior TL version.
I moved up to 30c this time, and they filled out to 33mm on my rims with a 25mm internal width. Initially didn't love them, but...
I haven't tried the new, I just really like the old, and I'm put off a little by reviews of the new version being more prone to flats.
I have LB wheels on all my bikes, road included. A couple of sets of WR45s and WR35s and the GP5000s don't give me any real trouble.
I think you have that backwards? The S TR is the new version. I love my old TLs and still hunt them down instead of buying the new S TR. The bead is little slippery to mount, but not what I'd consider difficult.
Works components makes a nice NW chainring that's cheaper than Wolftooth, but only for direct mount.
