Is it becoming "uncool" to wear protection?

I get a kick out the people poking fun with the "turtle suit" comments. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s everyone was aspiring to wear the same Dainese "turtle suits" the pros were wearing. If you could afford one you owned and wore one. If you couldn't, you slapped on the best protection...

    MSA World Cup 2012

Well it wouldn't do much for a lot the impacts with the ground, but sliding for many yards it would likely help a lot to avoid major abrasions. Didn't Gee have is arm stitched and bandaged at Val di Sol? I'm just remembering back to the days when I started doing DH when everyone had upper and...

    MSA World Cup 2012

I still can't believe how few people are wearing any substantial body armor these days. The price for failure is so high.

    Kids DH bike

My son is only four feet tall. I had him sit on the Hotrock 24 and it was way too big. When he's a little more confident we'll get a 20 and it will last him quite a while I think. His little brother is due any day now so any bike he gets will get more use later.

    Kids DH bike

This thread has got me so excited about my son riding bikes. I have to keep reminding myself that he's not super daring and I shouldn't be an overbearing dad. He took a while longer to get comfortable without the training wheels (he's 6.5), but once he got rid of them he's been gangbusters...

Repurposing my 2007 Intense Uzzi VPX for better trail riding?

The shock I didn't like was a Fox Float R with the high volume air can. It may be that the RP23 would be fine.

Repurposing my 2007 Intense Uzzi VPX for better trail riding?

I tried a lower end Fox air shock on my VPX a long time ago and did not like the result. It sat way too far in the travel and had no subtlety at all when I added air to counteract that trait. Unless the newer shocks have addressed that issue I wouldn't recommend it. I'd rather have the extra...

    the next big thing

How so? Look at how much development there has been in frame and suspension technology without the use of a gearbox. Doesn't seem like lack of progress to me, just not gearbox progress. I agree with what someone else just said about internally geared hubs that can be used with any suspension...

    the next big thing

I've never really gotten all that excited about gearbox stuff and never imagined it would go very far. There are too many bike companies with lots of time and dollars invested in suspension systems that won't support a gearbox. The variety of choices in suspension performance is what makes...

Are you getting a Holiday Bonus this year?

Our bonus will be about 70% of the target this year. A bummer but I'm happy to be getting anything at all. x

I've been boycotting MBA since about 1998 when I realized that their magazine sucks. x

    UCI bans skinsuits?

Can anyone who is a scholar of racing history give an example of an instance where someone wearing a skinsuit won by such a slim margin that the suit could be credited? I think the problem with coming up with such an example is that in DH racing there are so many factors it would be hard to give...

What's up with the new Saint Prices?

I just did a little research and Cambria is, in fact, selling at the prices the original poster stated. Seems strange that they can be had for so much less at CRC. x

    RNC Night 3

OK. I see. He associates with people you don't agree with so it's OK to deride him with the same sort of rhetoric that those people use. Yeah! An eye for and eye for makes the whole world blind. I respect your right to not like the guy, what he stands for and those he has associated with in...

    RNC Night 3

The amount of hateful stereotyping contained in your post gives me very little hope that our country will ever be a place where there can ever be any middle ground. Did you self edit and not use the term monkey to describe him? Sad. x

    Canberra World Cup

I was so bummed to not see this one covered the way some of the others have been this year. I don't care what people have to say about the course. A worldcup is a worldcup and the riders will always bring their A game to win regardless. That alone makes me want to see it live. Obviously there is...

    Canberra World Cup

Must......have..........more............news................................ I feel like an addict this year when it comes to the Worldcup racing. I'm really bummed about how disconnected this current race feels. Nice vid from Dirt but not a whole lot of other news beyond that. Obviously it's...

    Crank Brothers Joplin Seatpost

The thing that bothers me about both the Joplin and the Specialized posts is how the release is at the head of the post. When you click the release and push the post down you have cable length that needs somewhere to go. No problem if the routing is good I guess. I have the AMP from Precision...
