Converting a SRS into LG1

hello, i wanted to know if it was possible to convert a E.13 SRS into a LG1 without changing the whole guide? i believe only the top guide thing would be needed but where can i get it?

You need the SRS plastics. I think pretty much any distributer can order it.

Yeah, you can do it, but you need both the top and bottom pieces. The outer plate of the bottom piece on an SRS is shorter to allow clearance for the supercharger, and will not hold the chain on the chainring if the supercharger is removed. The outer plate on the LG-1 is longer and overlaps the chainring to hold the chain on. I've seen an LG-1 parts tree (all the parts you need to convert an SRS to an LG-1) listed with online retailers, but always out of stock and no-one ever seems to be able to get them. I ended up selling my SRS and buying a complete LG-1. I also highly recomend running the taco, ie cutting up an old supercharger and attaching it to the boomerang so you have some bash protection.

Is the LG1 backplate functionally different than the SRS backplate?

The new backplates have 2 holes for a taco (either SRS or LG1). The old backplates do not.

So why does the SRS have the taco mounts if it cannot be run without a supercharger? Simplification of manufacture?

I am currently running a pre-05 SRS without the upper wearplate (due to a frame mounted idler) and I am wondering if I could simply purchase the 06 backplate and then have the ability to run the "taco".

For 06, it's the same backplate. I swap mine back and forth. All you need to convert it is the inexpensive plastics kit.

Yeah, it's got the same backplate so you can convert from SRS to LG1.

No, the older backplates did not have mounting holes. They were introduced in 2006, along with the LG1. It's easy to tell, look at the back of the backplate. If it has 2 big mounting holes (chainring bolt sized) you can fit a taco, if not you are out of luck and need a new backplate.

A few questions about the SRS convertions to LG-1 and running a taco...
I just ordered a new SRS from either go-ride or universal, either way, I ordered the SRSW because it was recomended for the Demo 9 because of the excessive travel and dropped chainstays of the frame. I'm assuming they are sending me an 06srs which includes the mounting holes for running a taco.
So question 1, can I run a taco using a SRS? I assume no because of the way the top guide "box" is, but don't know for sure.

Question 2, Can I convert the SRSW to an LG-1 even though it's wider than the regular SRS?

Questions 3, can you drill out taco mounting holes if they do send me an 05 back plate?

last question, anyone know the actual weight saving when running the lg-1/taco combo, compared to running a SRS/taco combo (assuming it can be done) and lastly compaired to running the standard SRS/supercharger combo?

1 - no taco needed, you have a bashguard
2 - Good question, but I would assume so as the bolt holes are on the front of the backplate. Email derek@ support@e13.
3 - absolutely not. No material in the proper place.

I would run a taco just to drop a few grams, my bike is a pig, plus I like the astetics of a taco, but that's just a preferce thing. If the weight savings is enough I'm going to look into converting the whole thing, lg-1 and everything.

You cannot run an SRS without a bashguard. It is an integral part of the guide. That is why they came up with the LG1.

That's what I figured.

No one knows the weight savings of an SRS to LG-1/taco?
