    Turner DHR Romic/Fox question

My '04 DHR runs a Romic twin tube. Just a couple of things I noticed and was wondering about. With the shock off the bike and the spring removed - should I be able to compress the damper by hand? I can but I never used to be able to do so with my Fox.

More interestingly, when I compress the shock, it rebounds slowly through about 75% of it's travel and then speeds up for the last 1/4 of it's travel. Is it supposed to do this or is it cavitating/blown?

*edit* Anyone here ridden the DHR with both the Romic and the DHX? How do they compare? If I'm running a 450lb spring on the Romic any suggestions for the correct rate for the DHX?

I could but I'd have to put one end on the floor and press down on it.

That kind of sounds like cavitation but if it doesn't do it when it's on the bike, I wouldn't worry about it. I seem to remember mine doing the same thing for some reason.

It does sound like somethings not quite right there. As for the difference between the Romic and the Fox DHX, the DHX feels a lot better...

I think I remember my Romic shock feeling the same way when I took off the coil.

Yeah I've heard that but here in Oz a Turner DHX is $850. Not sure how much better it could possibly be.

hmm, id call romic and ask them, i think a seal, glide ring or similar might be failing between the "inner shock" and "outer shock" might be faulty

It may be position-sensitive rebound damping to account for the fact that you have a softer spring rate early in the travel?

So does it do it on the bike with a spring on it?

On the bike I don't even notice it. Just thought it might be an early warning of something about to explode. Could be position-sensitive damping or something though.

That's probably it...I guess the rebound stays fast at the end of the stroke to keep the wheel tracking over small bumps well.

Any tips on spring rate for the a DHX? I'm running a 450lb/in. on the Romic. About the same or less? Are the springs interchangeable between the two shocks?
