dumb Q: X9 front shifter + XT front der. ... worky??

I just got fresh X9 shifters.
My XT works flawlessly but I have a SRAM deraileur in my box-o-parts somewhere.

I've used an Attack front shifter to this point. Can I use my trusty XT with the new X9?

Gracias.

Yes. Totally compatible. Fronts only of course.

Yes it'll work as far as I know. My last bike I ran a SRAM X.0 front shifter and paired it up with an XT front derailleur and all was good. It is the Shimano shifter/Sram rear derailleur combo that is a no go.

millerdakiller teeters on the brink
a lot of specialized mountian bikes actually come spec'd like that. I know that any spec. with x0 shifters ran an xt or xtr der. in 08 and 09. haven't seen what's on the 09s yet though although i'd assume it wouldn't change cause it actually works really well. sram makes superior rear der. and cassettes but as far as cranks and front der. go shimano is better. so really the ideal setup is sram in the back, shimano in the front and sram shifters.

incidentally the reason that the rear der. isn't interchangable is because the cable pull on sram is 1to1 and on the shimano is 1to.5. or vice versa. i forgot which.

You're golden with that setup Nick. Ride on!
