    Coke Kills

    Coca Cola, that is.

It always seemed like a scare tactic that fat fearing parents would tell their sugar loving kids: if you drink too much Coke, you could die! (okay, maybe in a not so morbid way) But a woman actually died from drinking too much Coke. The coroner blamed the 30-year-old woman's 2.2 GALLON a day Coke problem—as in Coca Cola—as the reason for her death.

2.2 gallons is about 4 2-liters or nearly 24 cans of Coke every day.
    naturally, coca cola responded:

"[We] are disappointed that the coroner has chosen to focus on the combination of Ms Harris' excessive consumption of Coca-Cola, together with other health and lifestyle factors, as the probable cause of her death. This is contrary to the evidence that showed the experts could not agree on the most likely cause."
very quick to divert the blame. Sure, they mention its "excessive". But come on, 2 gallons of soda a day? Its absolutely preposterous. You're not even supposed to drink that much water in a day.

"Natasha Harris, a 30-year-old mother of eight"

"Harris's family told the inquest she had all her teeth removed after they went rotten due to excessive soft drink consumption and at least one of her children was born with no enamel on its teeth."

    Yikes.

That's the saddest junkie I've ever heard of. A soda jones?

Then again I just read about this woman addicted to coffee enemas.
Why are you getting all defensive, Hitler?

well, i drink around 1.5-2 liters per day.
i mostly hydrate by coke, i could go without water for several days at a time.

it started about 10 years ago, when i lived in the US and i got used to the 7/11 buckets of soda.
i have really tried to quite the habit, but have not been able to.

I'd try to hide it too. But seriously, it's just a caffine addiction.

Let's try oj with breakfast and coffee to get moving. I'm not sure if it's just my experience, but I find sweets with high-fructose corn syrup to be addicting. Making myself stop eating them and go back to natural sugars is very difficult and almost painful. That might be a similar issue with you... an addiction to the level of sweet.

Does coke in s. america use HFCS?
The product in mexico and a few other markets uses cane sugar (and is way better; not for you but taste wise).
HFCS is a by-product of the US corn lobby.

being a coke connoisseur, i prefer south american coke, in glass bottles if possible.

its made with sugar, instead of HFCS (as in the US). when i lived in the US, i used to prefer the mexican coke, the one sold in small glass bottles sold at ethnic markets. glass bottles give it a different flavor.

i fell very anxious when i do not drink coke. i´ve tried to replace it with coffee, but coke gives a different high.

The underlying health issues for all of the sugar consumption are the biggest things. From insulin to organs to bone density, it's ruthless.

How many cavities have you had Alexis? I never had a cavity until I was 28 and was worked SIX days in 12 hr shifts. I didn't want to touch coffee and would drink a monster Mountain Dew daily. Dentist found 4 tiny cavities at my next two visits. One resulted in rot, then a complete root canal and crown.

I've weened myself off those damn things for the most part, but I get a weekly fix of Mello Yello and brush my teeth here at work within 5-10 minutes after. Doesn't prevent any of the horrible side effects though.

Drinking it in sugar form versus corn syrup is still causing the same health problems.
Make it idiot-proof, and someone will make a better idiot.

no. but you can order coca mate at some places.

its like a a tea, made from coca leaves. if you chew the leaves for a few minutes, they numb you jaw, with pretty much the same intensity of IV anesthetics. it will keep you wide awake and alert for a few hours too.
pretty trippy experience (considering i have never tried cocaine).
