Sanjay Shanbhag LIVES. Is a crazy Mofo; Hardcore.

So some of you may remember Sanjay - he's registered on here as "Metal"-something as I recall. For those of you who don't recall Sanjay, he's a DH racer and was the guy who sent it over the dirt jumps on a beach cruiser at Sea Otter back in 04':

He did the same thing at Otter but on a road bike in 06' or 07' if I recall correctly. UPDATE: Sea Otter Jumpline road bike pic - see Bizutch's post at the bottom! (post #15) Thanks Butch!

I saw this posted on JDD's Facebook earlier today:

    Sanjay Shanbhag
Bicycle ride to Alaska: Day 8
I'm in Houston, not Texas, but BC. The ride is still going strong. My body, especially my left knee (IT band?) are getting tired, but I guess this is expected doing 100 mile days on the bike I have. I got rained on last night, but the days have still amazingly been dry. I'm 2444kms (1527 miles) from Anchorage. The people here at the visitor's center just told me about a guy that got attacked by a grizzly bear just outside of town. I'm sure that little piece of knowledge will help me sleep a bit better at night. I am pretty scrawny right now, and my beard is pretty filthy, so hopefully that will keep some of them away.

Last I heard of his whereabouts he was posting on here approx 5 or 6 years ago about a scenic trip across South America on a motorcycle.

Sanjay Shanbhag pisses in the face of The World's Most Interesting Man AND Chuck Norris.

Be safe and stay rad my friend.

Guys like him make me wonder...for every great racer that "makes it" how many Sanjays are there? He was about as anti-establishment as they come.

    Good luck and FRONJ on!

Ha, that's great. Always enjoyed his posts on here back in the day.

    Glad he's doing well.

At a race one, someone asked me, "Are you sanjay?"

He turned up at a friends place here in Van a whole ago. Apparently he'd walked there from the Mexican border.

    *uck yeah Sanjay!

He's the guy who first told me about Ridemonkey back in 03 I think. He was riding in Whistler with a glued together bike. Legendary dude.

That old Honda jersey should be in the MTB hall of fame.I firmly remember getting destroyed by him while he was on a hard tail at Big Bear back in the day.Thats when realized that in sports ,there are people who just have "it"and I was not one of them.

I always enjoyed seeing Sanjay at the races. I remember one race at Mt. Snow he had found some long-ass banner or ticker tape or something, but it was made of some pretty stiff plastic so the flapping was ear-splitting when he was hauling ass.

Heard him coming from the top of the mountain, all the way to the bottom. Even worse than the guys on the monocoque Foes.

Glad to hear he's living the dream

Back in 2001-2003 when they used Westridge Tabletop section for part of the Pro course the table were about 20-30 feet in length. A few Pro's Barel and another 1 or 2 were doubling them so going at least 60 maybe 90 feet. The tables were sketch like 30 feet between SUPER FAST.

Apparently SANJAY was doubling them on his EVIL IMPERIAL!!!!! Everyone around the pits were talking about it.

I actually put together his sponsorship package for him that season. Helped him get hooked up with all the brands. What was hilarious was John P. or Tobler one, responding to me with "You know, he runs his stuff SOOOO ragged out and haggard...I'm not sure we want that image. Have him call us and we can discuss it. Maybe if he'll come by the truck each event so we know his guide is set up right."

He was notorious for doing his race runs chainless or derailleurless, not because SRAM or Shimano wouldn't give him one (b/c both always offered), but b/c he didn't want to bother with it.

Make it idiot-proof, and someone will make a better idiot.
