A group of us went over to play at rat pack to get away from the rain. Conditions were killer! As we got into the second part of the trail. (where the trail originally started from at the "T" in the road) And got a bit into that where you make the traverse across the hillside on somewhat double track. We were stopped by very fresh cut and fallen trees! :mumble: Enough that the trail is GONE! And enough to have made our walk across them very hairball! :mumble: Probably over a hundred yards of absolute mess! So if anyone is thinking of heading over, you might want to wait to see what is to become of the trees. It looked as though they were logged on Friday, and will be using the doubletrack as a skidder road to remove the timber! The rest of the trail was great! I highly recommend ripping it on a hardtail! :thumb: That was the most fun I have had on that trail ever!!!!
And by the way, the damn gate is locked again! :mumble:

Someone had a key to the gate today, I figured it was a downhiller as the gate was open and the lock sitting on the gate and the only rigs I saw were shuttle rigs. I saw Plum Creek posted a sign at the top. I didnt go down the trail.
I figured the logging was around the corner, The tape was a warning. they will have to knock a road in to get the logs out. Who knows if they will clean it up after they are done? Some of the cuts they clean everything up. Other jobs they shove brush all over the trail to discourage further use. Judging by the taped area it should only be the upper third of the lower section that is impacted.

Holliswood, that post has flagrant smiley abuse. We've all been guilty of it, so I'm not judging, but........ ;)
Too bad about the tree carnage on Ratpac though!

Hmmmm...anyways...hahahaha. We're so silly.
I hope the 'event' there is just logging-related and will pass shortly. I'm also hopeful for a few more logrides over there as well.

I am going to have to check out the logging myself. Trouble with riding up in the rain-you have to come down, and some of this stuff is pretty slippery. As far as the gate oper or closed-its open. Trouble is the new gate by the gravel pit is locked and so is the power line gate coming up from Cle Elum. That is new-these two gates being locked.
I still think a couple of shuttlers have a key to the main road gate. I dont think anyone will admit to having a key. Anyway the gate is open and you can access it from Roslyn by turning north on Dakota and taking the first dirt road for 1.8 miles. It comes out just below the log pile.

I read somewhere that the south side of Cle Elum Ridge wasn't going to be loged. Some sort of land swap/ preservation deal. If the south side is clear cut it will look like hell while their trying to sell vacation property at that stupid resort they are going to build.

Roslyn just got 320 acres above the town, trouble is Rat Pac wasnt included. Hopefully the logging doesnt impact the trail too badly.
As far as riding Rat Pac for the rest of this year you might consider the trail closed for awhile. Thes logging operations can be in and out in a week or so, but this one might be in there for a while-they are going to do some grading on the road.
I couldnt figure out where they were taking the logs out, so I had to check it out myself. Borneo would probably have figured it out. The Rat Pac trail on the upper portion stays just below the ridge for the first mile or so. Just before it drops and heads south the loggers did their thing. They went in from the ridge, maybe 3/4 miles east of Rat Pac junction following the "old road". They strung their fishing line and cut everthing within about 20 yards either side of the line. It was a mess getting through the trees. The cutters look like they were pretty busy, some of the trees had quite a few limbs cut off. Tomorrow maybe they bring in the equiptment.

Heres a couple of pics from Rat Pac yesterday. The first pic is the Road Closed sign at the entrance of RP. The second picture is the "new trail" taken from the ridge about 3/4 miles east of the junction.
This trail is more than jacked up. I was up there yesterday-Saturday and they knocked a spur road in from the west that bisects the trail at the lollipop crossover. That was an easy one to cross. However after a short distance you come to the spur coming in from the east that has been lengthened. Right now none of the trees have been cleared and the logs and brush are impossible to walk through. Trail might be closed for the year. Also when the logging is done besides the road taking out a section there might be another section that will just get bypassed.
