They've put a detour on Gold Creek which really bites the big one. The section where you get close to the Creek itself, maybe a mile or less from the parking lot, has been diverted up to a hike a bike climb back up the ridge into some clear cut, then the trail got pretty primitive and unusable and probably ended on a hill on a new forest road.
We decided to backtrack, and riding back down was pretty fun, but the flowy section below looks likes it's blocked off for good.
i'm not sure what the deal is but i'm sure they intend to loop the trail back down the little ridge and on down to the Gold Creek Parking lot, but the trail looked as if they might instead have it loop back in on itself or possibly connect to Beaver Pond..... dunno yet, maybe someone out there is in the know....
Anyways i don't like it, the trail is perfect for Horses real rough and technical, and is fun to descend but it's a drag to climb.... it destroyed the flow at the end of that trail big time.....

Skooks never offers me any rides in his balloon:(
Bummer to hear that they are hacking it up over there - I've heard alot of good things about that area in the past. Hopefully, they're just reworking things over the fall/winter??

Yah snow level 4000 ft. doppler radar yellow over Greenwater, Happy finally woke me up to the fact that it was increasingly becoming a stupid idea to try it.... Yah Friday would have probably been the last day to hit the Knoble Knob trail.

No i traded in my Balloon for a tub of chocolate flavored peanut butter.
Well you can still do a majority of Gold Creek, after the little root drop, there's a rock garden trail spur that dumps you back on the forest road.
Looking at a map i've gotten a small inkling on where they could take the trail, and if they hook it up with Beaver Pond where i think they might, it actually might make for a really cool triple loop that would make Beaver Pond flow very very nicely, basically eliminating the hike a bike section at the end (where the trail climbs up to Gold Creek), when you do the trail counter clockwise.... That would actually be pretty cool.....
But if they just turn it around back down to Gold Creek parking lot it'll suck...

Yah i'll probably just call DNR tomorrow and see if i can get some info. i was just trying to be lazy and see if anyone out here knew more than me and posted....

I will keep next weekend in mind - let me know more as soon as you know more. I might be down for a slop-fest.
This chocolate peanut butter you mention, it's not like chocolate that got peanut butter in it or vice-versa but an actual entity that has both already? I might have to take you up on that as well!!

Yah we're goin for sure probably next Sat... i'm gonna post the ride on here so it'll develop this week. Even if it's raining it's a great trail to ride, the trails are super hard pack with hardly any soft mud at all. Lots of berms, rocky sections, and plenty of opportunity to float off small lips. So you still get wet, but it's not a mush-fest, traction's great.....

Good deal. I have a mud guard for my front and a jacket w/ a butt-flap, so I'm not afraid of a little moisture.
Since I've yet to ride out that-a-way, I think I may take you up on this offer barring some crazy-epic event that may come up this week.
By the way, trading a balloon for a tub of chocolatey peanut butter is a good deal in my books.

Did you do Gold Creek and Wild Cat?
I really want to take Kevin down Gold Creek. Maybe next weekend we can do the big loop we last time.
