Since PETA has made the statement, on their FAQ page, that they have no official stance on human abortion, I decided to email them about animal abortions, and how they feel about that.

I emailed PETA this question:

Where does PETA stand on the issue of abortions for pregnant animals
that were not speyed or neutered? It would really be great if you guys
could let me know.
Thanks,
Jason

And in response I got :

Dear Jason,

Thank you for contacting PETA with your concerns about animal abortions.
We look forward to a day when there will be no need to euthanize any
animal, born or unborn. We work hard toward this end through our Spay
and Neuter Campaign. However, until we achieve our goal, we cannot
condemn any shelter for euthanizing animals of any age, including the
unborn, if it is the animals' best option. We feel that animal abortion,
while tragic, is more compassionate than bringing baby animals into a
painful world where they are unwanted and warehoused in cages
indefinitely while millions of older, healthy animals are already
waiting to be adopted. Sadly, there simply are not enough loving homes
to provide all animals with the care and attention that they need and
deserve.

Which says to me that they simply feel abortion is the lesser of two evils. Now, I could get into a ton of crap here about how killing a cow is the lesser of two evils when it comes to how they'd die in nature, but I want to stick to the abortion thing. Even if they feel it is the lesser of two evils, they still see it as an evil, which I think says something about how they feel about abortion in general, that it should be a last-case scenario, and that killing living things is wrong. I had hoped that they would be against abortion in animals altogether so I could lambast them as hypocrits, but here, I see, they are somewhat conservative...and probably feel the same way toward people.
Anyone?

I'm against making abortion illegal, but I still don't think it's a great thing.

I don't think you've got anything on PETA here...

I'm pro choice. Abortion shouldn't be used as a contraceptive, but if a woman is raped or adicted to drugs with a history of "crap" babies, then it would be a sound choice.

When I first saw "animal abortion", i thought this thread was gonna be about eggs. Scrambled, over easy, whatever. But, as usual, BS kicks it into a higher gear.
