Looking to possibly move to the Hillsboro/Portland area but curious about the riding in the surrounding area. Im use to riding places like Northstar at Tahoe, Downieville... Whistler .. Is there anything like that around?? Thanks..

there is great riding 1 hour away, in hood river. http://www.gfra.org/ has the scoop. whistler has no equal, but i like hood river better than n* (but note that i only rode n* once). it's much less rocky and dusty, in any case, but no chairlift.

Sweet!! Thats the bone I needed. Do you guys ride year round, or are the winters to brutal for winter riding?
How long does it take to drive from Portland to Whistler..?

it's probably 7? hours from portland to whistler. i only spent january-july in portland so can't speak to the winter riding scene. winters in the nw are quite mild if wet.

Cool. I need someone local on the boards. Do you have a job lined up or something? I have not ridden my bikes since I got here and need someone to motivate me to ride...

Well, I moved to Austin, TX about a year ago from California. I miss the West Coast.. Trying to transfer with my company back west.
There's a bunch of stuff to ride in the Portland/ Vancouver area if you have someone to show you... There's dirt jumps everywhere, 4 or 5 different freeride / dh trails close by, and many more within a couple hour's driving distance. There's lots of urban stuff in the city and skateparks are mostly open to bikes.

yep yep.. I actually work for Applied Materials, but trying to score a position at the Intel site representing Applied and taking care of the Applied equipment there at Intel. Yea, whats Hillsboro like.. suberb of Portland or what? Do I want to live in Hillsboro?
I f***ed up when I took a position over here in Austin. I have to drive 8 hours to do any DH/freeride....
Yeah, hillsboro is a suburb of portland. It's about 20 minutes away from downtown, when traffic is good. There's also a light-rail system for mass transit that goes right through hillsboro and through downtown portland. It's a nice place to live as long as you find a nice neighborhood, there's a couple crappy areas (poor areas), but the city as a whole is pretty nice.

Yeah, Hillsboro is nice. Beaverton as well, which is right down the street. Both places are really nice, and you just have to get into the right neighborhood. They are both nice places to live, and you can find some nice neighborhoods right next to the light rail...

Hey, where is your shop located. I would like to come by and check it out sometime. I am going to be doing some rebuilds on some of my bikes soon and will probably need some parts...
