I hope you're kidding about the mini-skirt...cuz it's bad enough that we have chicks like April Lawyer posing in a mini for her poster shots instead of some sick drops or something...why is it that girls have to try and look sexy for all the guys in this sport...Why don't you try letting your skills talk for themselves and they'll think you're even hotter than if you do it mediocre in a mini skirt...I'm all for looking like a hottie off my bike...but you aren't gonna catch me putting on my makeup before a ride...This post is in no way derogatory to the quoted...I'm sure it was more of a joke...but come on girls...get some self respect... ;)

Absolutely not kidding about the mini skirt. And I’m not offended by your comments, but you should hear my “defense” since you quoted me

Why don't you try letting your skills talk for themselves and they'll think you're even hotter than if you do it mediocre in a mini skirt..

Not necessarily true! Ask any guy on this forum. (Hey, we should do a poll in the lounge, that’d be a good one!) From my personal experience, all I’ve heard from guys is that they don’t care WTF a girl does on a bike, as long as she’s on one, it’s hot. I’m not going for hottest, I’m going for hot.

Skills talk for themselves, no question about that. These pics in my mini will be me showing my own level of skill, however that is interpreted. If it is mediocre to you, then rock on for being a better rider.

Who knows why April Lawyer poses in a mini and not going big (even though I know she’s got pics of that). Maybe in addition to being known as a sick rider, she wants to show her femininity. She’s not just a rider, she’s a girl too. In a guy’s mind, what’s hotter than seeing an attractive female and knowing she can rip it up.

“I'm all for looking like a hottie off my bike” and what are your reasons for that? Probably the same as mine for riding in a skirt: attention.

but come on girls...get some self respect...” ouch! (not meant to offend??)

I’m all for the feminist movement and girls getting recognized for skill, not just looks and not “having” to look like a slut to impress guys. But progress is slow and you have to play the game first. The fact that guys dig girls on bikes is a great first step. Now that we’ve dangled mini-skirts in front of them to get their attention, let’s show ‘em what we can do!

I’m not worried, girls will eventually take over and rule the planet…just a matter of time :sneaky:

I think it's more about not taking ourselves too seriously and enjoying and embracing the fact that we're chics who ride. (And yes...the attention is nice too ;) ) It's the same reason I have a pink helmet with the Power Puff Girls on it....it's girly and silly and is a stark constranst to the dirty, muddy, male-dominated sport we choose to play in. I don't think many of us would give a guy the time of day who actually cared only what we looked like. As for gals like April...bottom line is sex sells. She's got a job to do and posing for those pics helps insure she'll have paychecks coming in so more power to her...let all the boys eat it up while keeping her out there rippin' up the trails :thumb:

Of course guys think girls ripping it in a skirt is hot...but I'd rather be recognized for my skills than my body...

My point of the the self respect is in general...not to you...I just don't understand why women in general have to give in to the whole sex appeal thing when it comes to EVERYTHING...if you want to look hot...pose for playboy or something similar...if you want to rip it up on a bike...do it...and not in a mini skirt...they just don't go together...and I understand your point...I'm sure you're looking for a man...but I'm not, so I choose to be recognized for what I've accomplished rather than what my parents gave me...

and I'm definitely not saying that YOUR skills are mediocre (wouldn't know)...just seems the mediocre ones are trying to make up for it in a skirt...instead of spending the time to look cute...maybe they should spend it working on their skills...

I'm sorry to bring any negativity into this thread...but it just bothers me that ladies think that when all else fails...we'll bring in the T & A...my opinions have nothing to do with the feminist movement...hell I wish it never came around so I wasn't expected to work...but come on...are we always gonna rely on our T&A to fall back on...my apologies to you Megan for any offensive remarks... :D

I fully understand you women taking advantage of the sex sells and I understand it...but we don't all need to give in...money isn't everything...and I think a silly pink helmet is a little different than wearing a mini skirt and showing off your body or T&A...and April's job is to ride a bike not look like a playboy bunny...although she doesn't go that far...she can keep earning that paycheck by increasing her skills and not her sex appeal...but I do understand your side of it as well...so forget I even started this topic...

What does looking for a man have to do with any of it? I'm not looking for a man, but wouldn't be against wearing a mini while riding. Not for looking like a sex object, but because I can.

I don't think any less of the Williams sisters’ skills for wearing shorter skirts or tank tops when they compete. On the contrary, I think they can because their skills are so good.

The comparison to my helmet and Megan Black's mini is the having fun with the sport and not taking ourselves too seriously. Embracing that we're girls and having fun with it.

The topic of April and using her sex appeal is a bit of a different topic. Yes, I see your point that it would be nice if we could all be judged on our skills alone. As racers we all have a job to do beyond what we do on race day, and that is to promote our sponsors and their products. April (and Maxxis) have choosen a path that for them has been very successful....I know what tires she rides when I don't think I can tell you that about anybody but my teammates! For some it's the right choice, for others it isn't. I just wish they had more ads like hers but with some of the boys.....I still love the Cannondale ad with Cedrics butt!!! (Yummy!!! :D )

But I agree with Snacks, Venus and Serena aren't compromising themselves. I think being recognized for both is possible.

I'm sure you're looking for a man Yikes! Holy assumption, Batman! I'm not on the "lookout" and I don't have to be to enjoy a little attention. Why did you say you like to try to look hot off the bike, again?

No real offense taken, just wanted to clear some assumptions up. I understand you have a personal opinion on this, right on for that. I think it's an interesting issue and you bring up a valid point regarding sexism.

speaking of sexism, I want CEDRIC GRACIA as my slave-boy!!!

I was thinking along the lines of going for sex appeal as to attract attention from the guys cuz that would go along with it...when you're not looking for one it's more of a functionality thing...as to wearing baggies instead of a mini skirt for more protection...but I will admit it was a very opinionated statement (the whole first one) and feel bad for voicing it...to each their own...but makes no sense to me because of the skin exposure and your legs will just look worse after a bad crash...but the minis do look cute if you're trying to attract attention...but if I was to try and attract attention I think I'd opt for a 10 ft drop...but you girls are all correct on "calling" me on my first statement...which really wasn't directly aimed at Megan's quote...as though it seemed to be...just quoted her cuz of the topic of minis...I'll admit it was more of a case of foot in mouth syndrome and topped with a little PMS...

and along the lines of functionality...minis work well for a tennis player as opposed to some baggies for them...as I think opposite for DH/FR...but that's my opinion...wrong as it may be...I guess at least my dumb statement got more women talking on here...

:stupid: (directed towards myself)

Yeah...I'm sure I'm not getting out of it that easy...but I do apologize for my opinionated statement and feel bad for saying it...can't say I never stuck my foot in my mouth before...

and both is possible...and cool if that's what you want...didn't really state it properly...should have said something more like...it would be nice to be recognized for your skills first and then your sexuality...but of course I didn't...and basically bluntly said you can't do both...but I guess all of them proved their skills and then were recognized for being sexy...foot in mouth again...

as for my statement of trying to look hot off my bike...it was a poor attempt to say I understand the need to look attractive but more when I can go all out at it rather than be sweaty from exercise (of any kind) and give a half a** attempt...but mostly because when I ride I'm focused on that and not trying to attract attention...makes me more nervous the more attention I get...especially when they know it's a girl...

as far as the man thing...I guess that's what I get for assuming...but my thoughts were that if you weren't looking for a man...you'd go for functionality...as some baggies would cover you better after a bad crash..as compared to wearing a mini wouldn't give you much coverage...I'm just trying to keep the scars to as minimal as possible...but I'm sure this is a poor rebuttle to that statement...as the whole thing was inproperly worded and shouldn't have even been posted...way too negative...
Thanks for being kind enough not to reply in a negative way...as my first post did...especially once I reread it later I could understand how it sounded so B****y...damn PMS...peace :p

point taken and understood...I imagine if it was laid out in front of me I might have a go at it myself...I guess I should have stated it more like you and said if we're gonna do it why don't the guys have to do it more for us...give us more butts...I'm not totally against sexism...but it seems to be more directed at females and it takes away from the focus on what we've accomplished on our bikes...or whatever it may be...just seems like they're selling out and having more of their "fame" be about sexuality than how good they are at their sport...but I guess if it pays more bills than go for it...

no worries at all!

I'm just trying to keep the scars to as minimal as possible... yeah, me too and I agree: functionality of DHing in a mini=nill

i'm just doing it for the pic and the statement ("look at me! i'm soooooo good, i can do it in a mini skirt, yay!!" blah, blah, blah) yes, yes, i know it's totally stupid, having said that, wish me luck this weekend

and I feel you on the frustration. that's what i'm saying, we need MORE HALF NAKED GUYS TO GAWK AT, just like guys have a library of pics of women

Thanks! Those were taken one of the first days out on my bike and I was amazed that I could actually jump with minimal effort on her :D

Yea, I don't like the one-sidedness of it at times either. We get the shaft all the way around when it comes to the biking industry because we're not the big target audience. Even some of the stuff that is targeted at women is crap.....alot of the women specific clothing doesn't even account for the fact that we're cyclists and therefore might have thighs and hips that are slightly bigger than your super model toothpick (GASP!!! Oh the horror!!! ;) ) But it seems every year there are more than more women I see out on trails so at least that's a step in the right direction :thumb:

I say we start a "We want more pics of hot male cyclists butts" campaign. Maybe Cedric would be our poster boy  LOL!

i love to wear mini skirts when i ride. and it has absolutely nothing to do with any guy on the trail thinking im hot. im married, and i could give a **** less who notices me when im riding. i feel empowered when i ride in my lillte skirt. lets me know i can be as girly as i want and still kick some major ass. kinda like "anything they can do, i can do in a skirt and do it better." just because someone likes to feel sexy on a bike certainly doesnt mean she has no self repsect.

This is totally off topic, but Megan: You don't happen to be a Megan that married a guy with the last name "Black," do you? Because I used to ride with a Megan and last I heard she was engaged to her boyfriend of that last name... if not, nevermind.

And because I can't help but put my two cents in, I think it's great to be able for women to stay feminine on their bikes. A friend of mine who skis professionally gets criticized for the same thing, and her answer is that she's a role model to young girls (which you all are, even if you're not pros) and she doesn't want them shying away from sports because they think it'll make them "butch." She's proud of what she looks like and she wants to encourage young girls to pursue the athletic look, not the anorexic one. Of course, her sponsors then go and airbrush bigger boobs onto her in their ads, but that's another topic, I think...

yeaaaah for you...I already was over that post but whatever....I'm all about looking like a bada** chick when I ride cuz I can and I do and I ride like that too...but girly is cool too if that's what kind of chick you are...Thanks for chiming in... :thumb:

edit: but then again I have a bunch of tats and like looking tough...not into being girly...but I can look sexy as hell though...

and let's see those pics...I've never seen a chick riding in a mini...I actually thought they were a joke and weren't actually sold (never saw them in a store either)...Don't your thighs get scraped to hell when you wear a mini and crash?? Makes no sense to me other than purely for looks and I like being recognized for my ass kicking riding...not how nice my ass looks...cuz my riding makes me feel empowered regardless of what I'm wearing... ;)

you may have been over that post, but i wasn't and am still not. i have a nose piercing that makes me look pretty tough too, thats why i dig the mini, its a nice contrast to the staple in my nose. i don't really have any issues with thigh scrapage its usually knees that are scabbed up, lucky for me, i dig scabs.

i used to be really fat. the fact that i can look good in a short skirt and ride a bike without feeling like im going to have a heart attack makes me feel good.
its nice to be recognized for how well i ride as well as how nice my ass looks because i've worked hard for my ass, i like to show it off. however, i am showing it off for me, not to impress anyone else. it may make no sense to you, but it makes sense to me and thats all i'm concerned with.

well, I said I was over that post cuz I thought I somewhat made amends for posting it...but if you want to still try and bag on my opinion feel free...

That's so wonderful that you lost so much weight...as you may be proud of how you look now and that's kudos to you...but what about my point of view and that would be that...well, I've been gocked and whistled at since I was like 10...gets very old and I prefer not to have that attention whatsoever...makes me uncomfortable and don't need it all day every day...I didn't do anything to deserve it other than the luck of the draw when it came to genetics...so in my defense I prefer to be recognized for what I've accomplished rather than what was handed down to me...you've accomplished losing weight and so to show it off a mini is hands down the best way to do it...My preference is to be "just one of the guys" and not separate myself in any way...which would be by wearing a mini and bringing my sexuality into it...it just would ruin the whole vibe of the group...and the fact that minis just ARE NOT PRACTICAL for DHing and especially FRing...I can see where they'd be comfortable for road biking or even XC...but you won't catch me wearing a mini off of a 10ft drop and scraping my legs to hell just for the satisfaction of looking good in a mini...I can do that when I'm shopping...

* i have a rule about not posting when i'm pms'ing. its a good rule.
Do you not talk to people as well when you're PMSing...cuz you could say something wrong too...learning to forgive and forget is the best thing you could learn in life...just let it go...

edit: difference in riding style may be a reason why you can get away with a mini and I can't...I was serious about the 10ft drop...and believe me I've got as much protection on as possible...no skin showing... :thumb:

yeaahhh...that first sentence made me laugh...I'm really not as much as a b**ch as I first came off as...actually my feelings get hurt when I start s**t here or in person...ruins my day more than it does theirs...probably why I wrecked so hard yesterday...anyways, if you ever make it out here(vice versa)...a ride together would be excellent...as I never ride with females...aren't very many here that ride...and I learn more with the group of guys I ride with cuz they're better than most people..they should be sponsored pro freeriders...but I would give anything to ride with females, especially ones that are close to my ability or hopefully even better...

This is Velocity Girl (can't log out of Freak's account to get into my own :mumble: )

It can be tough getting over "stage fright". I was lucky that I've always had super supportive guys to ride with who watch what I do and help critique it so I can do better. The first two things I always say when I crash are "how's my bike" and "what did I do wrong" ;) I still always hear spectators on the side of the course, but I think gave up caring what anyone thought after taking a couple crashes in front of everyone....it's actually kinda cool to hear everyone start cheering once you pick yourself up and get back on the bike!

Oddly enough though, I think I get more stage fright riding in front of girls than guys. I fall victim to the "if they can do it I should be doing it" more with girls than they guys :p (even though it still happens when riding with the boys....they have a tendency to encourage my stupidity!!) I'm lucky that their are some gals who kick some major a** on our local scene so it keeps pushing me to to better.

Oh, and FullTrucker.....those are pics I'd love to see!!!!

Hah! There is no way you look as hot as I do in a mini skirt. Just ask my GF.

You know, I don't care what anyone wears when they ride, as long as they ride. Though I do think that it is pretty cool that a girl can be all girly girl and still be tough and all. Judging from the pix, I think that I would be the one intimidated to ride with you ladies. Y'all are pretty hard core (seriously).

Oh yeah, my GF has many piercings and MANY tattoos, including a full back piece and is the most girly girl I know. :thumb:

this thread rules!! i only have a couple riding pics of me and they're from races so i ain't postin' them.

i'd have a ton of fun free ride shots if the fellas i rode with shot me as much as i used to shoot them. had to put the camera down this season in protest and they've all been gripping about the lack of updated photos. hrmff, i don't even have outdated photos let alone updates ones.

if i may ask you all, albeit late, about the april lawyer thing. have any of you heard the lude comments she endures during her practice and race runs? maybe it only happened back east, but there were some kooks in the trees at west virginia and mt snow aggressively hollering some pretty nasty crap at her everytime she passed. it was really unnerving and i hoped she was so focused she couldn't actually hear them. one female friend said she thought april deserved it for posing as she has. i disagree.

another late comment on the t'n'a vs. riding skills thing. marzocchi bomber girls this year are real live ripping chicks. the posters they were signing at interbike had a smidgeon of sexpot in a mock rock and roll photo that accompanied a few solid riding shot of them. i thought it was cool and makes the t'n'a more bearable. marz also made these sickly delicious shocking pink forks for each of them!! i 'm sooooo jealous. i was wondering if the fellas will be horribly let down that the girls aren't aren't porn stars or posing in suggestive positions.

I hear ya on that one! I met April This year at the Norba Race at Snowshoe and she is very down to earth. She chilled in our store for a while and signed posters. People are going to be opinionated and judgmental.... but what’s best of all is April's reaction to that. She doesn't let that crap bother her.... she just goes big. And If I could ride like she does and have the looks too...Why not show it off and be Proud to have it. She works hard for it. She might be in a super tight skirt in the posters but she can back her **** up with skill on the bike . And for all the people who are obsessed with putting April down, maybe they should channel that jealousy and hate into riding. OR get a hobby.

I understand your point, but most of the women that post here don't really care if your racing or freeriding as long as your riding, (and most women on this board partake in several different types of riding) . We don't really get exclusive, and we respect all aspects of riding. Most of the pict threads that pop up on this board showcase all forms of riding, and include everyone. I think that that's why we have created such a tight community here and so many of us have become friends outside of the computer and in real life. We have all got mad respect for eachother regardless if we're cross racing, bmxing, freeriding, xc, road racing, dh racing, urban riding ect. We like to see it all. Oh yeah, two pro female freeriders:

Emily Johnston
Jenn Jones

They both do freeride events and race DH. And both are from the PNW I might add! :thumb:

Keep the pictures 'em coming gals!

no need to be so deffencive. you act like this is your thread and your forum. actualy eveyone who posted pics on my thread have stuck to the freeride thing. and that's alright if most women on this forum don't care if it is racing or freeriding. even though i don't think you nessasaraly speak for all women on this forum. it's not a special club is it? i think there will probably be alot more females to post here that aren't in your special little group. i've been checking this forum for alot longer than my post count indicates. all that i'm interested in is seeing the progression of womens freeride. i do have an interest since i am one of the leaders of freeride revolution in the U.S. i'm not hatin on you, i just started this thread to push female freeride. you just seem to be a little territorial w/ your forum. i'm not trying to invade, or be negative. like i said, there i have no problem with racing, or bmx, or xc, or whatever. i just started this thread to see what kind of female freeride action i could bring out of the shadows. i know there is alot of unseen talent out there, and i'm trying to find it. and i'm deffinatley not down w/ the 2 page arguement w/ you. to each their own. you have your opinion, and i have mine. i can respect that, can you?

I guess my point is, I really don't care if there is a number plate pinned to the front on a bike in a picture or not, as long as it's a girl ripping. If my plate wasn't on in those two pictures, you couldn't tell if I was in a race or not. And in case you didn't notice, I did post a freeride picture earlier in the thread. A lot of the trails that races are held on are freeride trails rest of the year. So who cares if there's a number plate in the picture??

it's just a matter of opinion. i find a big difference in freeride and racing. it's not something that i feel like getting into right now. but if you wanna post your race pics, it's an open forum and your welcome to do so. i just try to respect other peoples threads. no big deal. serious. you are a chick, and it's plain to see that you rip on a bike, so i respect you and your skills. i want nothing but to see female riding get bigger and better. not saying that it is not good now. but i know in the next few years it will go off. peace :)

I really don't care either way if you approve or not of the nature of the pictures I post. It doesn't much impact my day. I don't feel that the pictures I posted were that out of line, but obvious they got your panties in a wad and for that I'm sorry.

You can cut the patronizing crap. Don't pretend to know anything about me or the quality of my riding. Just keep in mind, it's really easy to assume on the internet, but you often don't quite hit the mark.

Thanks! (although the pics are nothing compared to riding in high boots and a skirt :)) Yeah, I think that's on the bottom of A-Line. There's a berm right after where 2 parts of the trail meet. The teeter is from A River Runs Through It. We were out there for 2 days - 1.5 days of riding the park and half day at the RRTI trail. I could have spent months there. I fell in love with "freeriding." Definitely need to head back next year. Your crash sounds gnarly. Hope you've recovered.

This thread is reminding me of the Marzocchi models. If they aren’t a shameless attempt to get buyers through selling sex in their ads that have nothing to do with product quality or rider endorsement, then I don’t know what is. It really makes me sad that girls feel that they do have to show off their bodies to get attention. And it also disturbs me that guys encourage it. For me personally, showing more skin is a turn off – it’s like screaming “look at me, my best quality is my body, I want everyone to want it.” Why girls, why?? Is the concept of self-respect really so lost that it’s perfectly normal and even admirable to show most of your skin in public? What happened to modesty? Put your RIDING GEAR back on and GO RIDE.
PS
The reason the girls show themselves more than guys is because guys are more responsive to visual stimulation, hence, companies advertise what will get their buyers’ attention. Remember that issue of Flow Mag. a while back? That was disgusting and shameless… the Marz. girls fit right in on the pages of that ish…

Okay, I'm all for rational discussion, but when you start making assumptions and assertions that are either questionable or downright false, that's when I have to say something. What makes you think I know nothing about the subject at hand? I thought my post indicated a thorough understanding of the situation, even if our opinions disagree on it. I think women should respect themselves more than they do if they dress in clothes made to advertise their bodies in a sexual way. You don't think that women should respect themselves in that way. That just means that we disagree, not that I know nothing about the subjet at hand.
Now, last time I checked, sexist meant believing in or promoting inequality between the sexes. Never once did I say it was okay for men to do the same as women, such as dress in such a way that the appreciation they get is primarily for how they look unclothed/less clothed. Just because I appreciate modesty doesn't mean I'm sexist. That certainly doesn't follow. And for the record, if you want to attempt to disassemble and discredit my opinions, feel free to, but be forewarned. I am very rational, and what you've said about my opinions so far is simply illogical.

Now, I am sorry you thought I was referring to all women at once. I am only talking about those women who've lost modesty and think that public-half-nudity (especially in a sport such as mountain biking where it's simply impractical) is actually making people respect them more. I'm sorry that you thought I was criticizing all women by stating that every one has lost modesty, but clearly that is neither my opinion or the case. Thanks for the clarification.

Megan Black
11-18-2004, 06:30 PM
but when you start making assumptions and assertions that are either questionable or downright false, that's when I have to say something funny, that's what i thought of your little statement about how women who dress that way are not respecting themselves.

so good, now we're even. let's leave it alone

this issue of sexism could go on forever. believe me, i am so very tempted to disassemble and discredit your opinions here, i've got much more to say to you about this, but i don't think the other audience of this forum would appreciate it and honestly, i don't like you well enough to give you my mind.

besides, i'm not the kind of person to go flaming people just because i don't agree with what they do or think. you attacked me personally and i defended myself, i don't see a need to drag it into a battle. if you don't like what you see/hear here, go somewheres else to get into a debate about it. try the political forum.....

erikkellison
11-18-2004, 06:39 PM
First of all, I never attacked you personally. If you choose to fall into my category of "someone who doesn't respect themself through how they dress," then that's your choice, but I wouldn't know anything about it (at least that's what I'm guessing you're referring to). You on the other hand have directly attacked me: "I don't like you well enough to give you my mind."
Now, I'd appreciate at least a PM of you attempting to disassemble and discredit my opinions, but I don't think you will because really, your argument has little substance (or what I'm assuming your argument will be). Only recently have some women thought that dressing in such ways is somehow respectful. Ever chance the thought that it might be an incorrect and unsupported thought? Or have women throughout history held a distorted feminine ideal, and only now we're getting it right with nudes and half nudes in bike magazine ads? Give me a break, you're better than that.
And for the record, the coolest thing about a girl on a bike is that she's on a bike. If I saw one dressed in something other than riding clothes, I would just laugh to myself and ride on (because you know she's trying for something, and I for one am not going to give it to her because it's not really what she needs).

If you're referring to me, I wouldn't call what I'm writing "hating." I'm simply encouraging some women to have more self-respect (and guys to admire the women who do have more self respect).
I love this thread to, that's why I'm contributing to it. I love to see more girls getting out to ride.

And brad, regarding your sig, I completely disagree. I'm actually laughing to myself when I think that someone actually might subscribe to such nonsense. Now that's borderline hating, I know, but come on, the only reason anyone would have to believe that is because they had ulterior motives. Besides, if nothing is true, then that statement surely isn't.

PPS
I thought mini-skirts were phased out with the early 90’s?

uh no. the reason there are half naked girls all over magazine ads for bike parts is because women are sexualized in a media that is run by men. it has nothing to do with some made up biological condition that men respond more to visual stimuli. it is a totally cultural thing. if you don't like it i suggest you don't support the products. how about you write to the companies and complain about your distaste of the way they protray women in there advertisments. your distaste is in the wrong place.

If I saw one dressed in something other than riding clothes, I would just laugh to myself and ride on (because you know she's trying for something, and I for one am not going to give it to her because it's not really what she needs).

don't be so patronizing, its rather disrespectful.
this may seem like a strange or new concept to you but SELF-respect is a inividual value judgement. for you to impose your values of what you think is self-respecting onto another individual is sexist at worst and belittling at best.

it is none of your business how anyone else shows respect towards him/herself. and it is certainly not your place to tell a woman, any woman how she could respect herself better.

any self respecting individual wouldn't give a rats ass what you think about them when they rock whistler in a mini and **** me boots, or when they make a good sum of money posing half naked for some stupid bike fork.

i am willing to bet that a lot less people care what you think about them than you would like to acknowledge. your opinions are not so important or as relevant as you would like to think.

erik, your trolling, not encouraging. Your too busy judging others instead of trying to understand (for) yourself. I wouldn't expect to understand my sig, but I would advise you to open up your mind a little bit, you might just find life a little more enjoyable. It's a very old quote from "the Old Man Of the Mountain" BTW you take as you will, but the fact you take it as threat is very telling to your experience in life. Now you can try and instigate a fight here to busy yourself or you could go out and live life to it's fullest. I'm not saying that's where I'm at, but I'm trying.

On another note, someone mentioned utilikilts, I have a funny, but painfull story about those, I'll have to dig up a pic to set the mood though.

Cheers, Brad

because of one thread that people have differing opinions on, that makes me a regular Sh*t stirrer around here?? Seems to me you're trying to start **** with me for wanting to hear his opinion...because I think that wearing a skirt and mtbing isn't about "cuz I can" it's about the fact that you're trying to draw attention to yourself physically...that makes me a SH*t stirrer?? I just wanted to know what he had to say about the subject...and because my opinion differs from yours that's wrong?? Go ahead and wear a skirt sweetie...show off those legs you worked ALL that cellulite off of...feel free...no skin off me, but I bet you'll lose some...

So next time YOU want to start Sh*t with me...make sure you have some proof to back it up...cuz one thread on a forum doesn't constitute for being a regular SH*T stirrer...So sit back and think about this one...and maybe you'll see that you're the one trying to start SH*T with me...

Just curious- as you already realize that it's good to be irie, why not live it? Nothing wrong at all with posting your opinion(whether popular or not), but some of your posts in this particular thread do not jive with the layed-back stereotype of one who gets or is irie. Again, not trying to kick a chick while she's down...just curious.

wouldn't want to stir up any $hit in your own personal forum. you have alot of posts, i guess that means no one should go against your opinion, or they might be banished from your club.

Why would anyone come in here and consider bashing MB for riding in a skirt. Piss off. I only view it as disdain for your lack of efforts. If you can prove otherwise, post up some pics. Pads are ok, but until there is a pic of you rockin that drop, you should pipe down.

So is gtbi and zachdank the same person??? I am confused. I am also wondering why laura would be persecuted for trying to rationalize. If you can't say, good job to any of the ladies in any of these pics, you should spend some time thinking about yourself.

Erik - what did you think was going to happen? Nice job trolling though. I for one think you seem like an elitest, self absorbed pile of "ME". I hope that is what you wanted.

Why does having a lot of posts have to do with anything stating a personal opinion?

I thought us women were supposed to state our opinions and be all that? Work, bare childern, clean the house, and be a supportive wife? Insead when we do it's looked on as being b*tchy.

Just gotta say this has been a great thread to read through, obviously some strong opinions on the subject. As a straight white male it's kinda hard to relate to what it's like to be a woman in a sport dominated by men, especially when there's a disproportionate amount of hormone-driven youngsters just figuring out how to act as they stumble through their lives. Personally I'm psyched to hear and see more and more women getting involved in something I really love. It's also pretty clear that it's silly to think that all women will come together in some united front of feminism. All of us (men and women) are entitled to our own opinions and our own approach, and it would be pretty boring if everyone did the same thing.

Some of you think wearing a mini while riding does harm to the "cause" or whatever, but I disagree. Putting aside, for the moment, the valid argument that wearing a mini is not that safe, I think getting out there in girlie clothing makes a statement that hey, you can ride the gnar AND still be feminine if you want. And props to you for that. Some of you who have taken issue with the mini would probably not ever wear a mini off the bike. And props to you for that.

One of the best things about riding is the opportunity to express your individuality. This is especially true with freeriding. So be girlie, be butch, whatever, just be on your bike and do what you want! That's liberation, no matter how you define it.

Anyway, it's gotta be tough, so much respect for all of you, whatever you're wearing. Hopefully there will come a day when being a girl that rides is just not that big a deal. See ya on the trails!
