LAS VEGAS -- Singer Linda Ronstadt not only got booed, she got the boot after praising filmmaker Michael Moore and his new movie "Fahrenheit 9/11" during a performance.

Before singing "Desperado" for an encore Saturday night, Ronstadt called Moore a "great American patriot" and "someone who is spreading the truth." She also encouraged the audience at the Aladdin hotel-casino to see the documentary about President Bush.

Ronstadt's comments drew loud boos, and some of the 4,500 people in attendance stormed out of the theater.

People also tore down concert posters and tossed cocktails into the air.

"It was a very ugly scene," Aladdin President Bill Timmins told The Associated Press. "She praised him and all of a sudden all bedlam broke loose."

Timmins, who is British and was watching the show, said he didn't allow Ronstadt back in her luxury suite afterward and she was escorted off the property.

Ronstadt's antics "spoiled a wonderful evening for our guests and we had to do something about it," Timmins said.

Ronstadt, 58, had been booked to play the Aladdin for only one show.

On Monday, Moore released a letter to The Associated Press that he intends to send to Timmins.

"For you to throw Linda Ronstadt off the premises because she dared to say a few words in support of me and my film, is simply stupid and Un-American," Moore wrote.

Calls to Ronstadt's manager were not immediately returned.

In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal before the show, Ronstadt said, "I keep hoping that if I'm annoying enough to them, they won't hire me back."

Timmins said Ronstadt would not sing at the Aladdin again: "As long as I'm here, she's not going to play."

Moore said Timmins owes Ronstadt an apology.

"I have an idea how you can make it up to her — and to the millions of Americans you have offended," Moore wrote. "Invite her back and I'll join her in singing 'America the Beautiful' on your stage. Then I will show 'Fahrenheit 9/11' free of charge to all your guests and anyone else in Las Vegas who wants to see it."

OK I for one do not want to see Moore singing :D but I love how he was able to milk his rolein this that much more. :sneaky:

Does the Aladin have the right to remove Rondstat from the premises?

Out of the ~4,500 people there to see Rondstat, I heard this morning ~1,000 or so stormed out....seemed like I would be pissed at her too if I was the casino. She was paid to entertain and not vocalize her own feelings....she can do that on her own dime.

I think Moore should appologize....to the Aladin hotel and casino. He has jsut as much to appologize for as the Hotel. ;) :D

Open Letter to Bill Timmins, President Aladdin Casino and Hotel

Bill Timmins
President
Aladdin Casino and Hotel
Las Vegas, NV

July 20, 2004

Dear Mr. Timmins:

I understand from the news reports I've read that, after Linda Ronstadt, one of America's greatest singers, dedicated a song to me from your stage on Saturday night, you instructed your security guards to remove her from the Aladdin, which they did.

What country do you live in? Last time I checked, Las Vegas is still in the United States. And in the United States, we have something called "The First Amendment." This constitutional right gives everyone here the right to say whatever they want to say. All Americans hold this right as sacred. Many of our young people put on a uniform and risk their lives to defend it. My film is all about asking the questions that should have been asked before those brave soldiers were sent into harms way.

For you to throw Linda Ronstadt off the premises because she dared to say a few words in support of me and my film, is simply stupid and Un-American. Frankly, I have never heard of such a thing happening. I read that you wouldn't even let her go back up to her room at your hotel! Are you crazy? For crying out loud, it was a song DEDICATION! To "Desperado!" Every American loves that song! Sure, some people didn't like the dedication, and that's their right. But neither they nor you have the right to remove her from your building when all she did was exercise her AMERICAN right to speak her mind.

Of all the things that go on in Las Vegas, this is what creates the need for serious action? What about the other half of the crowd at the Aladdin who, according to the Las Vegas Sun, cheered her when she made her remarks? Did you throw them out, too?

I think you owe Ms. Ronstadt an apology. And I have an idea how you can make it up to her -- and to the millions of Americans you have offended. Invite her back and I'll join her in singing "America the Beautiful" on your stage. Then I will show "Fahrenheit 9/11" free of charge to all your guests and anyone else in Las Vegas who wants to see it.

Mr. Timmins, as the song "Desperado" says -- "Come to your senses!" How can you refuse this offer? I await your reply.

Yours,
Michael Moore
Director, "Fahrenheit 9/11"

what a fvcking tool.

you do not have the right to say whatever you want when you're under a private employment contract. You upset your employer's clients, you get fired.

Does anyone think that having Linda Ronstadt kicked off stage offended millions of americans? I personally would welcome that (sorry N8).

And even the idea of MM and LR singing a duet on stage has my eyes and ears bleeding!!!

One of these days (very soon) the 'liberal elite' are going to wake up to the fact that average Americans actually do support President Bush.

And there is the probhlem, b/c the average american isn't all that bright...

Yeah that'd be ugly Republicans protesting. Did they have a permit for that?

Having been to Vegas I'd be happy to be escorted outta there. Horrible place. :)

If that was at a rap concert, you'd have Republicans (and Bill Cosby, I guess) railing away that blacks just can't control themselves, and use it as an excuse to cut funding to inner city schools (why pay money to educate dumb negros anyways?) or something similar.

When white Republicans do it, it's patriotic. When poor minorities do it, it's rioting!

When white Republicans do it, it's patriotic. When poor minorities do it, it's rioting! They were rioting. They were called un-patriotic by Moore. *shrug*

What was your point? ;) All the rest was just general accusations that have no base in reality. :dancing:

Sounds like they vacated and dispursed themselves....there was no protest. It was a riot (see Silvers post) :)

If I was the manager/owner of a casino and a entertainer proceeded to piss off my clientel I would have fired them on the spot also. Speak your mind on your own dime.... I wonder if Nevada is a Hire/Fire at will state? :)

And luckily they don't vote for the most part either...

:nono: Actually, "they" do vote! It's just that their votes dont count in certain states where George W. Bush's brother resides as governor, and his sister is in charge of the presidential vote tally!!!

It's cool though, George W. Bush, like his daddy, is a one-term LOSER and will be back down on the farm, whacking off and taking naps all day, come this November. He will go out, like he came in, the most HATED U.S. president in history.

Thanks for playing... :thumb:
