Have an 03 Fly with a Fox RC. What spring rate would you recomend for a 220lb rider?

I'm 220, and the guys at the shop told me 600 - 650 pound spring. I haven't installed mine yet, but I was bottoming out on a lot of smaller hits. I'll try it this weekend and let you know how it works if you like.

The 350 on a Romic is a bit soft for me at 170 lbs with gear, but good if you're using the bike for DH and want a little more sag. The 450 was too stiff, haven't tried a 400 yet

K, tried it on a few small 3 foot drops, and the 650 spring doesnt bottom out like the 550 did. It doesnt feel as plush, but it sure is better than hearing the clang of the shock bottoming out. I hope this helps.

so maybe a 550 and a 600 pound spring would be a good place to start?

550 will be plenty for you even in the 8" setting. I've got a 500 and a 550 and I can run the 550 with hardly any preload...and I'm 220.

Do you like the ride better with the 500 or 550? I am also sending off the shock to get "Pushed" so should have alittle more adjustability in the compression and rebound. I like to run as little spring as possible and still have plenty of bottoming control.

Yeah, if you are getting it pushed I would wait to try a spring. You will have some adjustability, and the stable platform will help too so you may not even need the new spring.
I had about 31/2 inches of sag with the 500 lb spring, and personally like the 650 better so far cuz I haven't it hasn't been as prone to bottoming out like the lighter one. I want to push my fox too, post any feed back that you have once you do do it..
