I love barleywine style beers (Bigfoot Ale, Olde Saguaro, Olde Foghorn, Olde Numbskull, etc...). Anyone else on here like these thicke and hearty ales? The low end is usually 8% AC, and the highest I have tasted is 15.6% AC. Shout out some of your favs.

BTW, I also really like to drink a nice Belgian Tripel (which New Belgium makes a great one....aply named....Tripel)

15.6%? yowza. how do they get the alcohol content so high? is it fortified? i guess some wines are approaching that now, though...maybe an ethanol-resistant strain of yeast?

i've had a few barleywines in my day (old crustacean, old scratch, old ringworm...why are they always old?) but can't say it's my drink of choice. not bad in the right circumstances though.

russian imperial stouts also pack a wallop.

I like them, although the stouter ones can be nasty.

I'll take a Brooklyn Monster any day. Nice stuff.

And in response to Narlus - As for the high alcohol content, one trick is using champagne yeast......
