V-Brakes

I've noticed the XT V-brake arms have a tendency to be a bit flexy. Is this common to all linear-pull brakes or is it just inherent in the XT design?

Next spring I plan on another upgrade project and wondering if I should look at something like Avid.
Also, how does Avid rate their models? (what's low end to high end for Avid?)

I suspect its has a lot to do with that lever/roller setup you are using.

I have a pair of Avid Single Digits and they are awesome!

Well, yeah, the Travel Agent certainly adds a lot to the "spongy" factor.
But the mech. at the shop was showing me on another bike that the XT arms themselves had a little flex to them.

I've seen Avid has stuff like the 1.0 and models like that. Is Single Digit another model, or does it also have some numbering system?

Flex is good, broken is bad. Locked up is locked up.

XT brakes work best with XT levers. The flex can be taken away with one of those brake arches. As for Avid brakes, the Arch Supremes were some sweet brakes, but I believe they were discontinued. probably due to the fact they were $140 a peice...

I've found that xt wasn't that good I've got some new Shimano DX's and they're primo awesome braking power and no flex though i have only had them for a couple of weeks
