Hey, I'm new-ish to the Greensboro, NC area and I would love to meet some folks who ride. Is there a Greensboro forum or rider group on this site? Thanks.

kat,
Here's some forums that may be of some value:
www.trianglemtb.com
www.smallbrowndog.com
Unfortunately, the trainglemtb site mainly covers the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area and the smallbrowndog site covers mainly the Charlotte area. Basically, you're about in between both locales. That said, both websites have some good info. on them - although, IMHO, the triangle website gets more day to day conversation and discussion than the smallbrowndog site (but I don't frequent the Charlotte site very often). As for the Greensboro area itself, you've got a pretty good selection of trails around. There's Owls Roost (off of Battleground) and the several trails near there that can be connected for a pretty solid ride. Plus, there's some good trails in Mebane which is only about 20 or so minutes east of G'boro. And then you've got Winston Salem where there are a couple nice options (e.g. Hobby Park, Tanglewood, and some trails near a certain lake which shall remain nameless on this forum). There's also lots of trails in the Raleigh area if you're up for a hour drive (the closest being the Estes Trails in Chapel Hill - prolly 45 minutes from ya). Finally, there's always the magnificent trails in the Asheville to Morganton area (2.5 to 3 hours away).
Not sure if that helped much, but let me know if you need more detailed info (I'm in Raleigh) as we have frequent group rides here and occasional forays into the G'boro-Winston Salem area.
You can also find some trail info. on: www.mtbr.com
under the trail review section for NC.

thanks for the info. i used to live in chapel hill and am familiar with the estes trails. i was hoping to find something similar around here---i'll check out the suggestions. even better would be folks to ride with in case i break my helmet in half. sheer pragmatism. thanks again.

I live in High Point/Thomasville. PM me and let me and I can send you some contact info. Also check out the Greensboro Fat Tire society, they have some really cool members that set up several local rides etc.

i'm in high point and do a lot of urban in greensboro. there are a few of us that try to ride frequently. mostly freeride, dirt jumps and erbun, not much XC. if you're interested in some stunts i can show you around salem lake, ( a lot of it is "secret" so you kinda need a guided tour.) or if you like DS there's hobby park and some local dj's at a few places that encompass different skill levels.
i can't help you very much as far as XC goes, there are some great places to ride locally but my bike doesn't climb very well so you won't see me in lycra.:D
here are some pics of local spots.

hopefully this helped a bit. i remember when i was new to the area it took a while to find some folks to ride with, especially with the particular genre that i like to ride.
i work an odd schedule, 4 on/ 4 off so chances are good that i'll be off if you want to ride. send me a pm or email me at sempertubby@aol.com.
see you out there!
