8mm seat rails on a thomson post???

Is it possible, I have a thomson seat post meant for 7mm and i have my fav saddle which happens to be 8mm. I have seen others do it, your opinions?

I've been running 9mm rails on two different bikes for over a year and have had no problems. I don't know why anyone would use any other seatpost than a Thomson.
