Is there any way you can shorten an 03 Sherman Firefly to 4 inches without the rapid travel adjust system? I've heard about spacers... anyway If you can find me an old link to a topic here in RM it would be cool.

The firefly automatically moves down to 4 inches via the travel adjust nob.

But you can't ride it in the 4" setting hard, which is what he wants to do I would assume...
Try a search, I swear I saw something on RM about this, not sure where, just search Firefly or Manitou Firefly, I think that's where I found the instructions on the spacer, but I think it was a 30mm long pvc pipe that slides over the damper and rests on the top out spring which effectively makes the top out spring that much longer, shortening the fork and giving you 4" or travel, works somewhat like a marzocchi "permanant" travel change as opposed to the rapid adjust.

bout half way down he posts directions, pictures a little further down, its an incredibly simple process, I know for marzochis you need a 3/4" pvc

I am going to have to disagree with not being able to ride hard in the 4 in setting. I raced mtn cross all season and dirt jumped in the 4in setting without any problems. You shouldn't have any problems.

Then you're lucky. After riding my firefly in the 4 inch setting for 4 months, I got the fork stuck in that mode. Not such a bad thing I guess but one day, I'm going for an abubuca, and bam, my fork goes into the 5 inch mode and feels like crap. I got it back into the 4 inch mode immediately but I'm worried that one day, I'll break the tab inside the fork so I'm stuck in the 5 inch mode.

What about running the forks in 4" mode with softer springs?
I heard that the travle ajust tab had a problem in the 03 modles but they fixed the problem for 04.
