What's up everyone... I'm in SE portland so if there are any of you that need a ride to the truckstop or all the way to PC give me a call. I've got a Tacoma 2WD. I can fit 2-3 bikes in the back and 2-3 monkeys up front if you don't mind the cramped extra cab. Anyway Tim or Karen, give me a call if you still need a lift. (415) 385-9627[c]

Are you guys planning on meeting me and Toshi at the TA truckstop in troutdale? If you do we could probably leave at least one car there.. I have room for 3 more people and ill have a trailer for bikes.

Missed out on today...couldn't quite get up after riding urban til 4:30 this morning ;-) But we're down with riding tomorrow...and I'm mobile. We might even have room for someone else, though that's still TBD. Is anyone else shuttling PC again tomorrow? If so, email me or call me at 503.522.4917.

It'll be a bit slower and I don't plan to do any drops. I'll drive shuttle mostly.

Anyone else want to go?

hello and welcome to RM. Tim is TWISTED.
Hey, more new monkeys! Great!
I obviously missed out on the awesome riding this weekend but I'm done moving, and I have a huge garage at my new apartment so the bikes have more room than I do :D . Anyway, I'm free for both days next weekend so is everyone planning to hit PC again? I'm up for either or both days..........
Speaking of both days- anyone interested in camping up at PC saturday night? It'd save a lot of time and gas as opposed to driving home for the night. Just an idea.
Toshi

i'd be up for camping at pc or near there... but i'd like to hit up leadbetter on saturday morning (on the evil, hmph) if that happens.
Everyone should try to get in on this:
How's this sound- leadbetter on saturday morning (until about lunch-ish), PC saturday afternoon and evening, camp at PC, ride more PC sunday morning. Head back whenever. Sound good to everyone?
Hopefully we can get a bunch of people for this, or who can meet up with us for at least part of the riding.

Hey all,
Fun riding at Wildcat... good to finally get out and do some downhill; it has been a while. If you all have a mailing list for shuttle days, it would be great to be on it. My address is: sam_littlefield@hotmail.com. Otherwise I'll just check in on this board now and again for updates.
We're not hi-tech enough for a mailing list, but this post gets the job done. Check back often..... You free this weekend?

Hey all -- if anybody's around on July 6/7 or thereabouts, Mobius and I are gonna hit PC up on our way to Whistler. Shuttling it sounds better than climbing to the top ;). Anyway if any of y'all want some beer or something we'll get ya drunk if you can show us some sweet trails.....:D

We've talked alot about it, lets start making plans...
I was thinking of Monday Aug 2nd through Sunday Aug 8. Drive up early Aug 2nd, If we leave portland at 6am, we can be in BC by noon and take a couple shuttle runs on seymore. Frizanko and I did that last time, made the drive alot better. Drive home Aug 8, leave around 2pm, back to portland by around 10pm.
Lodging would be for 6 nights. In general, the more people, the cheaper it is.. From past experience, we should be able to get a nice condo for around $100/night. Divide by number of pepople going.
eknomf - What kind of deal can you get for lodging?
I have room for 4 bikes and passengers, so might need two cars. Anyone else feel like driving?
So, who'se in?? :thumb:

Hey, does anyone local have a spare front brake? Im trying to help a friend of mine get his bike built but he needs a front brake but doesnt mave much cashflow right now. It's been like 4 weeks since he started trying to get it together but its been just one problem after another... I want to get him out to PC this weekend, but dont think its gonna happen unless I can find him a brake...
Oh yeah, Tim if you want to sell that MRP you were talkin about I bet he'd want to pick it up too.

Frank my extra MRP is a 110x5 bolt for chainrings 44t-50t, 'could run a smaller tooth chainring put might rub on guide plates. It's the MRP style that has a stationary inner plate and the outer guide plate bolts to the chainring.
If you need a 4 bolt MRP 38t-44t I have one (both guide plates bolt to chainring) that I'm using but could sell.
I might have a front brake as well.
Let me know,
Tim

I have a 8 inch hayes he could borrow.. but it needs new pads for it to work. They got wrecked when my fork on my hardtail leaked oil all over them awhile ago.
I was also thinking that some of us portland monkies should do a trip down to falls city sometime. Ive only been there once last year and it sounds like theve got some nice trails now.
Chuckwagon - that whistler date would work perfect for me but it sounds like our timeshare thing is all full for those dates so i couldnt get us any deals on a place to stay. Were you thinking just a bit of seymour and then all whistler? Or stopping at some of the other places kind of on the way as well?

We could also do some squamish, or where ever people want.
No prob on the time share, we should be able to find good deals anyways. I'll check into it.

If you weren't sure maybe this help you believe that mountainbikes are better than dirt bikes.
My youngest brother crashed his cr 250 and broke his ankle about two months ago. Had surgery, a plate and a bunch of screws.
Last night my middle brother crashed his cr 250 racing at PIR. Broken Femur, broken collar bone, and messed up back. He's in surgery right now.
All three of us grew up racing motocross, I of course switched to mountainbikes. Their motorcycles stay locked up in the garage till race time while I go riding pretty much everyday. I've tried to get them to come ride bikes with me but have not been able to get them out to the trails.
Anyway, I think I'm skipping on leadbetter and post canyon. Need to get healed up before I hurt myself more. I'd like to do some downhill trail riding maybe sunday. Cold Creek at Larch mtn or Syncline out at the gorge.
Well I better get up to the hospital.

Thanks for the tire offer, but i got a 2.3 that will work for both my scream and my soon to be fixed hardtail since i only have one rear wheel right now.
Im planning on coming out sunday to ride timberline.. but is anyone still planning on riding PC or something Saturday? I also threw togethor a video tonight of stuff i got from the gorge games. There was alot better riding than i got on film as well, but after about 30 minutes of watching the comp i got bored and went to ride the rest of PC.

Nice vid Ryan. Wish I could go check out Timberline with everyone this weekend. I went out of town after riding PC & Wildcat a few weekends back and was in pain most of the time. When I got back I went to the doctor and it turns out I broke a rib... must have been when I went OTB and the bars skewered me. Anyway, I'm stuck on the road bike for a little bit longer. Are people still thinking of a Whistler trip in Aug? I'll be up there the 14th-20th with some bro's from Seattle and CA.
cheers,

Funny little vid... was that a beginner cat., or is PC more vaginal than I had imagined? I had heard nothing but stories of huge, flowy jumps, and drops that would make you freak out in a not-so-sixties kind of way.
Is that not the case?

Lets meet at that TA truckstop at 11 since its easy to find. Try and get that trailer because otherwise shuttles will be hard.. but if you have the broncos top off we should be able to make it work.

I can get us from the DQ to Timberline, no problem. It's trail back down i don't know. It's super easy, the Alpine trail Comes down from the bottom of the old Blossom Lift, the Glade is just alittle further west of there and drops you behind the Huckelberry Inn in Govvy...I forget where it excatly starts, but if you go to the P-lot a timberline and ask around people will help you...Look for Jim Tripps, he's THE man on the mountain, he knows everything eh...good luck on the ride it's a ton-o-fun although I like the Alpine a bit more. It's shorter, but I know it so well from riding it home for a few years to Govvy that you can just flow the hell out of it. It'll drop you at the top of the Summit Ski hill above their lift then you can screw around there and just drop out to the State Rest-stop there behind the Scumits and the Cheveron.

Sorry about that Ryan. Toshi's car wouldn't hold three bikes. We tried for a long time to get them loaded, then it got late. Toshi doesn't have Zane's cell number, I don't know if Zane has Toshi's, and my phone is broken. It was about 5:30 when Toshi and Thad finally left my place. Toshi's rigid xc mtb to me, doesn't seem the optimal choice for riding the stunt and drop ladden trails of Post Canyon.
Flugtag
I hear the first drop is at 1:00 pm but the event gets under way at 11:00 am or so.

That was the most fun I've had on a bike in a long time. :thumb:
Anyone who wants to become a better rider should try to make it out to a good bmx track like this one. My single speed hardtail worked perfect. I was clearing all the big doubles and flowing through the long rythym section fast and smooth by the end of the day. Excellent practice for mountainbiking.
Ryan hasn't said anything about this yet, so I will. PC on saturday was good, except for me falling and smashing my nuts pretty bad halfway through the day..... It was dusty and warm but fun, until ryan broke his chain. A trip into hood river solved that problem.
We met up with some guys from nelson, canada, towards the end of the day- a dad, his son and his son's friend (sorry, I forgot their names. Ryan- do you remember?). They had no idea where the good PC stuff was so we took them up for a full ONT to drop zone run and to frankenstein. Needless to say, the dude's son was flat ripping it up. He pulled damn near EVERYTHING on XChorus, Egghunt, GP and frankenstein FIRST TRY, most of it without even walking down to the stunt to look at it. He also hucked that huge drop to wood platfrom at the end of egghunt like 3 times, each time bigger than before. The amazing thing was finding out he was only 14! (he had been riding for 6 years, and it showed). He looked like 16, but his dad said otherwise. Crazy stuff, but it's always fun to show people around and see how they adapt to new terrain. It was a fun day, and I'll be good to ride again in a week or so.
Tim- did you get to ride the newberg skatepark at all? They're the biggest anti-bike-nazis around, but if you can sneak in a run or two it's well worth it.

Why would I want to? That BMX track kicks ass! They don't allow bikes in the skatepark. They said pegs screw up their coping. I said, Uh, what pegs? Kevin rode the skatepark most of the time we were there (on a borrowed skateboard). He looked a bit ragged on the track, in my opinion he could have used the practice.
I had a great weekend of riding. :)

You can borrow my hardtail if we went to Newberg. There were four of us all riding my bike. That place tires you out in a hurry. Again I cannot say how much fun that place is. Total supercross :thumb:
Dogwood Park in Cornelious is fun, was there not too long ago. Looks the same as in those pics.

Skibowl was cool, except that the downhill course and the dual slalom course were totally gone- I was looking forward to those. The pro course in the woods was fun and everything else was dusty and rocky. It should be better (muddier) now that it's all wet.
I have also seen the perfectly flat ground where the wendy's jumps once stood, they're completely plowed. It looks like the land is being developed so I don't think they're gonna be rebuilt, but I know of a couple spots we can build if anyone has some time. We need some good local stuff.

Ho-lee sheeit, I didn't think this thread would ever come back. Nobody in portland likes to talk about local stuff anymore....
Ryan-
I'm up for riding on saturday as long as it's not pissing down rain, I'll even ride if there's a little rain coming down. PC sounds good to be, and I'm sure I can convince brian and chris & angie to go too. Are you bringing your scream or the hardtail? I know of some more dirt jumps in portland, they're closer than goat ranch was and they have a couple of cool step-ups. If you feel like dj'ing we can stop there...
Um...... I don't think anything else new is going on. Oh, the disorder 5 premire was pretty cool. I wish I could've gone to the one with beer but it was fun nonetheless. Good movie, a little too much hip-hop music for me but the riding was good. And I'm probably getting a scream in a couple months, chris's old one. He's most likely getting a new bike in february so I'll buy his old frame.
So yeah, I guess the weather for saturday is like 50/50 for rain so we'll have to wait and see. I'll give you a call in the next couple days, I have your cell #. Later.

.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ................................................
Actually i may not be coming down... the guy looking for a frame/bike found a complete giant dh for like $1200 in bellingham. Jason had his frame on nsmb with a back wheel chainguide, bb, and headset for $600 i think. He said hes getting hairy gary. I saw the nwd5 premeir too up here and overall i didnt think it was that impressive. A few parts were really good and the rest kind of sucked.
Why do you want a scream? They are heavy and pointless for most people and the same suspension design as your kona... so unless you are breaking that what would be the point other than adding like 5 lbs of metal to your bike. If you really want a new frame get something lighter that would perform better than the kona suspension design. You should come up here some weekend and ride before it starts snowing... theres lots of really fun stuff to ride. Heres a few pics from one of my most recent rides last weekend. They are huge but i dont really feel like making them smaller so people with slow connectons will just have to suffer.

I want all the Portland locals to know about the new indoor BMX track opening up in Milwaukie, OR. It should be a lot more fun than trying to ride skate parks like I did last winter. They allow pretty much anything with 24" or 26" tires to race the "cruiser" class, so you can run a hardtail mtb if you like. I expect they'll have plenty of practice nights as well.
Remember, all the big time mountainbike guys used to race bmx. Find out why.

yeah those look pretty nice... but why not try a different suspension design? There really isnt anything that great about the kona one. If you still want a scream though i might get rid of mine sometime soon in favor of something a bit lighter because i actually have to pedal up hills here and it sucks on a heavy bike.

I'd consider your frame if it wasn't a medium, a large scream feels perfect to me. Chris's is a large, I like the way it rides and I can get a pretty good deal on it. I'll then sell my kona frame with the jr.t I still have laying around and make the money back that I spent on the frame.
I would like to get a "different" frame design- I'd ride just about anything if it's the right size and has good feeling travel...... and has semi-low standover. But I really don't want to spend that much money at the moment and good deals for cool frames are kinda hard to find. I also need to build a new computer so my spare funds for the near future are devoted to that. If I don't end up with the scream I'll look around for another good deal. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Help me out. A message today would be great so I know where to go by the morning.
The best riding this winter is at the indoor bmx track in Milwaukie. Grab your hardtail and race the MTB class.

I googled it... didn't come up with what I was looking for. Do you have to be an ABA member for insurance reasons? One day licenses? What kind of track terrain, i.e. is it small jumps and lots of flat, or big tables/doubles and such? I know I'm not the only one that finds it difficult to keep speed on flat tracks. -S

I don't know what they are gonna do about racing licenses if you're on a mtb. I assume they will want you to purchase a cruiser class (24") ABA card.
The track has a really tall starting hill with big, steep, berms that allow you to take the corners at full speed without slowing. There are 5 and a half straight-aways, none of the straights are just flat, as you worried about. You can roll the whole track without getting your tires off the ground, except the split optional pro-section with two dirt jump style gap doubles. There are three straights of rythym sections with singles, doubles, small tables, and step ups. You will find that you can gain speed through a section of jumps if you know how to pump. I can do most tracks quite well, including jumping some doubles, without ever pedaling once, just using the "pump" technique.
For more info check out my thread about the race and there's the email address of the people putting on the race.
Also send a PM to some of the people who race their mtb's on bmx tracks up north. They have a thread of their own.
I went to check it out and let my kid's watch but i didn't see any MTB's.
Were you there?

I'll try to make it out there tomorrow. I'm still all busted up from my crash Wednesday.

Corvally group headed out to PC tomorrow to take the Falls City skills on the road. Someone show up and show us around?!
Anyone know what conditions are like? Trying to decide on clipless (dry) or flats (slick as shick).

Charlie,
I do remember. I still have your number, but after Wildcat I got really busy and was in the field for school for a few months... thus not calling. I've been going out to FC quite a bit as of late, but I killed my shoulder today up in PC, so I may be off the bike for a while. Hopefully not, but we'll see what the x-ray has to say about it tomorrow. I'll send you a PM or give you a call the next time I'm able to make it out riding at FC. Cheers.

Sam-
Hope your shoulder is OK.
sam_little: how was post canyon (still wet/muddy up top?) Good luck with your shoulder- what'd you wreck on?

Zane:
Conditions were perfect. No mud, tacky trails, dry stunts, etc. The road up is a little puddled towards the top, but no problem. The trails really were great.
I had two bad wrecks, but I don't know the trail names so description is difficult. One was off of the the wooden hip after a teeter-to-g-out, a little before the big drop to wooden landing (that probably took a forest of wood to build). I pitched forward, over-rotated, and landed on my head rather fast. My neck is still tweaked from that, but the shoulder pain is helping me keep the pain in my neck off my mind.
I killed my shoulder on the stupid wooden vert-style launch ramp at the bottom of the section they used for the gorge games. I don't know who built that thing, but they obviously didn't think it through. I've seen some awfully talented riders hit that ramp, and nobody hits it clean. Anyway, I looped out in the air and did a pile driver on my shoulder. The health center folks think its a partial shoulder separation with associated muscle damage. So, it should be a month or two of physical therapy before I'm good, unless they called it wrong.
Whatever, maybe now I'll actually work on my thesis and get the hell out of grad school.

Though I have not ridden in a while some of you may remember me.....
my question is are the trails in camas completely gone now? IS the road gap even there anymore?
Almost all of the leadbetter stuff is still there, you just have to cut through someone's yard to get to it. Remember where the top of superman was? There's a row of houses there now..... This was as of last weekend.

Is superman the drop at the top of the steep hill or the table below it? Or am i just completely wrong? If its the lower one i cant imagine they built houses down there... too steep. You should go ride PC or Wildcat or something instead... even if there is still that stuff at leadbetter its not worth it.
Also - Zane - I think its time you come up and break your new bike in on the shore. The trails have been perfect lately and some of them may be getting logged soon.

do not get me wrong i amnot saying leadbetter in the state it is compares to wildcat or PC but leadbetter is 15 minutes away. all i wanted to do was hit some jumps and there are a few fun ones at leadbetter.
plus i have not ridden in a while and I do not want to ride with a bunch of people and embarass myself.......especially the WILDCAT crew!
