Hey y'all
so i got a boat load of pictures taking up space on my computer... what better to do with them than share with the world eh? so anyhoot- i figure this forum might be interested in a picture of the day thread. feel free to kick in pictures of yourself or your crew- trials or not.
start things off with a pic of me downtown denver-ville dropping to a rail. it looked a lot bigger through spomer's wide angle but i thought this one looked cool with the big buildings going on there:

i meant to start this earlier so i guess it's already tomorrow pic time... i doubt that made sense...
here is local trials homie/hero Josh Stevenson dropping from the big assed wall to the block below. about 7 feet down to rear wheel landing... fancy. i had been eye-ing up that line for a year and he hijacked it from me and im glad he did!

ok- so the wedge is one of the hardest moves to nail in trials. you are on the outside of your wheelbase sandwhiched between two objects. normally those objects are stable (or at least dont move all that much- see end of cotrials 4 for the double rail wedge). this time though, i made the foolish mistake of trying to wedge with my rear wheel on a rock that moves considerably. carnage ensues. Photo by Ty from Ft. Collins. this is the pre-set up for the move, my front wheel will come down to the rock down and slightly behind my front wheel.
WhiteRavenKS
01-25-2004, 10:09 PM
trying to put the kind of power to the rear wheel needed to get out of a wedge on a rock that wobbles like 5 inches back and forth is not my smartest of theories. this is me playing the role of ammo in a human catapult. my rear wheel shifted behind the take off rock and my front basically didnt go anywhere when i took off. great. photo by Ty again.

no pickie for you today peeps but i have got a video to stimulate your visual cortex-
Get the Scoop on the Poop here (http://cotrials.com/COTrials8.wmv) right clicky and savey as.
COTrials 8 is now done and ready for viewing pleasure. I made it last night (anyone who spells "night" this way: "nite" should be slapped) after working on a video project for about 4 hours for my video class at ecole (i think that's french for school- see you learn something new every day). it may suck but if you think that well too bad- you're a naysayer. this vid is short and drrrty like x-tina aguilera (get it? it's a pun- a bad one, email me if you need further explanation)
~24mb and 2:21 long.
just fyi- trials is boring. if you have a short attention span dont download this or at least break up the viewing of it into several incriments to be spread out over the next week.
please post some comments below such as "the music sucked in this latest vid- it was so annoying" and "why does trials suck so much- you should do stairs gaps instead those are virtually undocumented in mtn bike vids" and things of that nature so i can make my vids better in the future.
thanks peeps!

im just messing around with different (often weird ass) music lately to get a better feel for what works and what doesnt for my next full length movie. im sick of seeing mtn bike videos with soundtracks that might as well be be the "queen of the damned" soundtrack (by the way, anyone who has seen that movie without getting an anurism or a stroke is one tough fellow- that movie blew chunks).
i will put up a link to CO Trials 9 later tonight. its a bit of a change of pace from these last two but still some off beat/different music for a mtn bike vid.

thanks to matt for hosting as always. thanks to the riders for coming out on a beautiful denver day to ride (actually it sucked, it was freezing cold and snowed on and off the whoel time- we got a few minutes of sun peaking out at the beginning- then crap).
i managed to screw up some really great riding with frozen knuckles and sloppy editing. its a long one to compensate for the short little turds i put out recently. 9:21 long and about 45 mb.

I think it is coo' too!
So how often do trials riders get pinch flats?
WhiteRavenKS
02-04-2004, 07:05 PM
chumps who havent seen the light yet and still run crappy tires get them all the time (i used to get one a ride with irc tires). people "in the know" run a big M whether that's Michelin or Maxxis and since the switch i have to really really really really mess something up to get a pinch. sharp rocks have cut my michelin tire sidewalls before without pinching. my maxxis knobblers dont pinch either. even at stupidly low pressure. damn i wish the roads were not suckin' it up right now or i would be headin to the park tonight...

this is a shot of former world champ (only time rainbow stripes mean fookin manly as hell) Kenny Beleay of Belgium hooking something about 6 feet tall. French Crazy in the membrane rider Giacomo Coustellier has done an up this big to rear. when i saw stuff like this at worlds i crapped my pants. seriously it went in my eyes, my brain got what just happened and i just started pushing.

ok, now i am depressed because i have reminded myself that my 45" to rear aint poop compared to the world class guys. too bad they wont even see it coming when i kick their butts.... in a few years.... yeah right. :D

i forgot to add this- in uci trials rules your pedals/bashring/crank hitting is counted just the same as your foot going down. you take a dab for every time metal hits so they do everything all rubber. that means when they are hooking, they are only touching tires to the rock/wall. gnar. so gnar it makes me sick to think about it. i only have to go about 18 inches bigger to get to what they are doing! too bad that's a big 18 inches eh?
thanks spomer for the camera/other advice and for the big ups plug! :D
©2001
02-11-2004, 11:57 PM
dude, you did FORTY FIVE INCHES!!! that's so sick regardless of frenchie le leeper!!!
could you just put rubber all over your bike so they couldn't count the metal-dabs? seriously.
©2001
02-11-2004, 11:59 PM
also, how do you do a 6 foot up??? doesn't that mean your vertical leap is about 6 feet? that's recockulous! is his back wheel higher than his head when he puts the wheel down :)
WhiteRavenKS
02-12-2004, 12:56 AM
haha, good thinking on the rubber coated bike idea... but sadly uci would call that crap just like disk brakes in cx. lame.
for the peeps that dont get how a 6 foot up is do-able: when you slam your front wheel into the wall, it transfers the forward momentum into upward travel. so basically when you get four or more cranks in on a trials bike you are going full speed. if your timing is good and you dont die when your bars/fork/wheel explode when the front wheel hits you get launched up like a kicker... only there is no kicker. its hard and i still get dj pee pants scared at the move.
damn euros. some day i will be that good!!!! :D word shawn. i think i just got a gl-2...?

ok, this isnt bike related but it is without a doubt the coolest thing i have done in weeks. months even. this is from my physics class today- we are learning harmonics here is as good of an explanation as i can come up with: an oscilloscope is a device used to measure the frequency of sound waves. a small piezo electric crystal acts as a microphone and when it is impacted by sounds waves it its compressed and generates a very tiny electrical charge. this charge is measured by the machine and translated into a visual wave on the machine's screen. we got to mess with this thing today in physics we were supposed to find out the frequencies of various tuning forks for this lab. needless to say i didnt do that. here is a screen shot from the program we were using of what a small piece of a fart looks like to this machine... it was hilarious. i almost pissed my pants i was laughing so hard.

in uci if you touch your pedals or bashring or frame or anything that is not your tires- its a dab, same as stomping your foot down.
that being said here is a move i call the skid mark because thats what it leaves all over your trendy overpriced trousers.
set up:
Rider- Giacomo Coustellier
Photo- Kevin "This Guy" Shiramizu
Spotter because this crap is more dangerous than sticking your hand in a lawnmower: Michel Coustellier.
WhiteRavenKS
03-11-2004, 09:24 AM
see that. to tires wedged on the inside of the wheelbase on a rock with an indiana jones level fall to the death behind him. trials riders in the us dont even know. this guy and his brother (Gilles) dont suck. i do.
WhiteRavenKS
03-11-2004, 09:29 AM
no wait this is the skid mark. try hitting a so called kicker from three turns of your cranks, slaming your front wheel into the face of a rock staring you down like syndrome then slapping it in the face and doing directly to the top on rear wheel. o yeah- did i mention it's like over 6 feet high. double o yeah- that so called kicker was really just an uphill slope that most xc racers would cry about.
Rider- Gilles Coustellier

Jiggy K-Monkey! Just in case you were wondering if we're all still paying attention. Well... at least SOME of us are! And let me tell you, buckwheat, that last video was the ferret in that intimate relationship you always thought you'd never have. Sicky gnar gnar indeed, young Spankmeister, sicky gnar gnar indeed.

yeah right- my dad wouldnt know what a pantry was or where it's at. "break the word down- pan~tree, must be some sort of plant that grows and flowers pots and pans!" i dont know if he can reach the top shelf. i doubt he knows what's up there. that's why he married my mom. :p
as for that last video. they are THE GNAR. i know most people dont really give a hoot about trials cus it all looks the same to them but i can pretty much garauntee that video of the coustellier brothers and some of the other top euro guys will blow anyone's sucks off assuming they are not firmly secured on with a fine piece of footware (ie, dc's, etnies, es, etc.). i mena come on. he shoots lightning getting up stuff! you know it's bgi if he is shooting lightning- haha!
as for people paying attention. i dont care anymore. if no one else ever came to this board i would still be posting here with my ramblings and wise ass-ery. it would be just like how i live my real life. :D

That is rediculous. Are you sure there are no special effects in that video. maybe it was a Lucas Production? Some of that stuff doesn't even look possible.
I am gonna go watch it again...

oh yeah, i almost forgot. have any of you ever tried to bunny hop like up a curb with your wrong foot forward? it's weird huh? how about crusing a trail with your wrong foot forward? feels a little less controled doesnt it? how about ever hit a dirt jump switch foot forward? did you die? almost. yeah- you get my drift. grab that video a few posts up and sit back as danny butler blows the lid off that stuborn pickel jar that has been sitting in your fridge for months un-touched with it's treasures burried within, visible, but far beyond your reach forever. until now.
try getting up a 4 foot wall switch foot forward. sticking it to rear. backpedalling to get your balance and get your footing proper and follow that up with a 6 foot gap to a rail. then be able to do it every time, when ever you want. holy skillZ batman. why that would be like mark appleyard doing a kickflip to 5-0 totally showing up heath kirchart because you opened your section with his ender on the same rail. i seem to have drifted into another sport. damn. first tonight it was language, now its a wrong sport. it's time for bed.

**** happens. im just pissed i have to drill a new rim, get new spokes and nippies, lace it and replace a fork that was $150 (at cost, yeah, it's overpriced)- in two days. great. i dont even want to know about the headtube.
on a less anggrrrrrrru note- here is top austrian rider Thomas Oehler brining some streetish moves into the forrest. fufanu/tire tap on the wimpy tree. photo by me in Castillion, France.

Unfortunately I dont have 150 dollars right now, but if you want my Orange fork its yours. Disc tabs have never been used, a little sratched but perfectly straight. The only thing is the steerer tube is a little short since it was once on a megamo:( so if your headtube is longer than a zoo or echo it wont work.

look at silly me doing a pedal kick to front wheel up this bar height wall and tweaking it out so bad i barely made it. if you do this right your ass is hanging out around your deraillure. i am not that flexible. if i thoguht heel clickers were cool, i still wouldnt be able to do them- A because i am not flezible enough sine i quit doing yoga and B because i am far too big of a wuss to hit a jump large enough to squeeze out a heel clicker, i would crash a totally wreck my taint.
by the way, no one steel this idea. im going to make a convertion kit for people who ride shimano's new line of Saint parts. it will be a sticker than makes you parts say Taint instead. there will be a sticker designed for each specific logo on every part. i will let you all know when it's done.

Nice shots there Kevin, That Theo guy is crazy! I have seen him manual for blocks.. I am pretty sure his bike is to light in the front and he struggles to keep it on the ground because I don't think there is a single picture of him with his front wheel on the ground.

edit: I can't believe I forgot to post a picture with it, so here's one I don't think anyone has seen before... I have no idea why he's making that face, he must be concentrating really hard?
