Knee Pain
Knee Pain Location: Causes; Solution
Front of Knee:
Seat too low; raise seat.
Seat too forward; move seat sack.
Climbing Too Much; Reduce Climbing.
Big Gear Mashing; Lower gears, higher cadence.
Cranks too long; shorter cranks

Inside of Knee:
Cleat lack of float or floating cleats toed out too much; Switch to floating cleats or bring toes in more with cleat adjustment.
Too much float; limit float to 5 degrees.
High tension to release; lower release tension.
Feet too far apart (Wide Q factor); move cleats inward, narrower BB, cranks with narrower profile (Q Factor).

Outside of Knee;
Toed in too much; bring toes out more with cleat adjustment.
Too much float; limit float to 5 degrees.
Feet too close,(Wide Q factor); move cleats outward, wider BB, cranks with wider profile (Q Factor).

Back of Knee; saddle too high, lower saddle.
Saddle too rearward; move saddle forward.
Too much float; limit float to 5 degrees.

"Rearward" hmmm, I've never seen that word. Is it a real word? If so, I plan on incorporating it into my daily conversations because it sounds cool.:thumb:

Thats great information! I asked about inner knee pain a while back. Too bad I have not had a chance to ride since then! :angryfire

Hey that's the Bike Doc. He's a real doc and he has a great Mtb ranch. (unfortunelty it's up for sale) He also has a few races there during the year. His ranch is also a working cattle ranch. Texas Longhorn's. It really weird ridning in thier fields. Check him out at

Thanks!! I've had some pain behind my knee... only during the motion of pulling my foot back though... it's odd, I dont' remember doing anything out of the ordinary... other than starting that spinning class... plus I can't seem to shake it (the pain that is), I havent' done weight workouts with the legs in a couple of weeks to see if that helped and it really hasn't... so I will give the advice a try and see if it works.
