Is there a Mac player that will play Windows format videos? WMV, ASF etc. What is ASF anyway?

Nope, Real has issues with wmv...Windows Media Player is the only one licensed to play wmv files (although VLC below may be able to play some). Here are some more tips:

1) Go into Quicktime Settings, select Software Update, select Custom, and install ALL of the additional codecs.

2) Go to DivX.com and download the free DivX codec for Mac OS X.

3) Download and install VLC from http://www.videolan.org/ for additional codec support. If Windows Media Player fails to play wmv files, VLC should be able to pick up the slack.

I've been a Mac junkie since 1984 and do all of the digital video editing for my race team and most of the New England Subaru Impreza Club.

Right, except Quicktime won't play WMV files. ;)
