Since I don't live close by a Ski/Mtbike resort I need a bike that can pedal up to the top of what ever and still have some DH fun not like a XC or trail bike. This 04 joker is the lighest 7'' travel frame that I know. Waiting for my 185mm rear juicy 7 brake. The current six inch Avid is just not beefy enough for the steeeeps...

The adjustability rules (lever reach and contact point). The feeling is somewhere between Hayes and XT's. I don't have any idea how they actually work since I haven't ridden on them yet. Full report to come later.....

as I said, I might be able to tune it for a bit more performance but it already feels much nicer than the stock Fox did. It is "softer" inintially and ramps up smoother (more progressive) and it seems to round out harsh edges. So I would say I like it a lot. I hope to tune it a bit more very soon, especially now that the weather is so nice.

Hey Punkassean!

That's a sweet Stinky! How do you like the Swinger and Sherman combo? i've considered putting a 5th Element or Swinger my on Stinky. Currently have a Fox RC with their Big Hit Valving upgrade and it's a nice ride.

punkassean
06-30-2004, 12:05 AM
yeah dude, it's rad...I have spent a while "tuning" the fork and shock but now I think I have found a happy medium between "platform" and "plushness". I ended up with a 500# spring and just over the min. air pressure in the SPV chamber with the chamber dialed in only about 1.5 turns max. I think I have the the high speed compression about half way in (closed), it has a check-valve so it will open up no matter what on a hard hit. And I run the low speed all the way out (open) for small bump sensitivity. As far as the fork, I also run low pressure (just enough to prevent bottoming) and about 1 or less turns in on the chamber. Set up this way, I don't really have a noticeable "platform" but the overall suspension feel is really nice, plush and active. I am thinking of dropping to a 450# spring for the rear shock (I weigh 148#) and running more air pressure in the SPV chamber to get a platform feel and a more progressive (due to more air pressure) rate. I promised you a wrap up once I was done...well that's about where I sit... it took me long enough!!!

There's a lot of titanium weight saving going on with your rig. Now, how much does it weigh???? How much did you spend upgrading to all that titanium too?

I actually haven't weighed it yet. I have some excellent friends and connections in various industries as well as some personal ties, so I didn't spend too much at all on getting my bike pretty well dialed.

Trond
08-06-2004, 02:35 AM
Hey, thanks man.

The bike is very good - and pure racing bred. It does corner like mad, you can seriously push the bike down in corners. You'll notice the stiffness in the rear triangle as well. The floater is def worth it, as the suspension is noticably active during braking. At least worth it for me :) I am coming from a bighit with the beaudry/avalance kit and it remains as active.

The bike is well balanced and low in the front, which at least FEELS a lot faster. Stable at speed.

The romic feels good, not as good as the avy but lighter and feels more active. When the funds allow it, I might switch ;)

It sits deep in the travel and the first 3" are very soft, so I am not as comfortable jumping it yet. I am sure it'll come. It's not a bigdrop bike either, but I am sure it can take a pretty hefty beating.

What I don't like:
- Paintjob not very good for a 2200dollar frame. Rubs of easily, feels thin.
- Wire/hose guides not good. Two different routes everywhere. I want it fairly clean.
- Not reamed for a CK steelset, when they face the HT they could easily ream it deeper too :)

And dude, the engineering and machining going on around the lower shock area is damn cool. I catch myself just staring at it :p

Well.....long story. I turned a huge profit when I sold my bighit back in June. paid $1100 for a 02 comp that was upgraded, invested $140+original plates into a almost brand new biglink, traded a old beginner's bass guitar and amp along with $25 for a almost new 03 Monster T, ended up selling the complete thing for $2000shipped. Saw the v10 on pinkbike, advertised as 03 with new front triangle from warranty, borrowed about 300 from my parents to pay for the rest of this which I just finished paying off this month, lol. got the v10 and realized the front triangle was 04, with virtually new everything on it. :D

Either that or I save my $5 a day lunch money and dont eat lunch at school so that I can buy bike stuff.
