rear shock spring help

im trying to put the spring back on my vanilla rc. but i cant get the top collar on since the spring is fully extended. do i have to compress the spring to get the collar to slide in? or is there some special way to do it. oh i have the bottom collar screwed all the way down too.

Without the above info, i can't help you much. there's several very frustrating ways of messing it all up.

i didnt get it off, i gave the shock complete to my lbs to send it to fox and i got it back w/ the spring off. its a vanilla rc, i dunno the eye to eye lengh or the lenght of the spring. but i got the collar on so i think im ok
