For the next 6 weeks, I'll be limited to only my hardtail for commuting and play. Figured I'd throw slicks on there during the week, and the gazz jr's on the weekends...

anyway, since i'll likely never use these tires again (my usual commuter is a road bike)... I'm staying cheap and ordering from Jenson along with some toher stuff for a friend's build I'm doing. To the point: will the hutchinson 1" slicks work on my 521 and Singletrack? Or are the rims too wide? how about 1.5" slicks? Or do I need to go all the way to fatty slicks like the Maxxis?

I don't have anything handy to try... but I'm sure a 1.9 or larger will work.

if the 521 is similar in width to the singletrack, then this picture should help for size reference (this is a 2.1" tire, supposedly):

i wouldn't go any lower than 1.5", and would probably stick to 1.9" myself.

Yeah, you shouldn't put on anything smaller than a 1.5", but I would recommend even bigger than that. Maybe along the lines of some...Hookworms (2.5").

You can definately use 1.5" slicks on a 521, as I've done it once. Made the tyre profile quite low and wide (for a 1.5"!) but it worked fine.
