View Full Version : Diff between 525 and 555 Deore Hydro Discs?

Is there any difference between these two discs besides the color (525 = black, and 555 = grey)? Do either come with flip-floppable levers?

I'm pretty sure the black ones use a hayes style post mount thingy. Because I remember seeing someone using an 8" hayes adpt and rotor with one of the black deore calipers.

Niether lever flipflops.

Confirmation. The 525 uses a Hayes-style mounting system, and a different lever casting than the 555. This means you could use 8" rotors on the 525. A few people around here have done it, and have gotten great results; very powerful, well modulated brakes. Both seem to work about equally power-wise.

Nice. I actually ended up grabbing a pair of XTs for the build I'm doing for a friend, but the 525s look like a great choice for the next budget build I do. I actually like the lever much more than on my hayes, and don't notice a difference in power on the 6" versions.
