So yesterday I was JRA.....

J/K.
Doing an urban ride, I square edged a 12" curb yesterday, and dented my rear Mavic D521. After changing an incredibly snake bit tube (the bite went through both top and bottom), I went home and straightened the edge of the rim. It still has a small dent in the braking surface, but the edge is fairly straight.

What, if anything, should I do? Get a new wheel, ride this one till it breaks? Any concerns about riding it this way?

Thanks in advance for you help.

Marc

just ride it, it'll be fine. Dented sidewalls are part of life, they happen all the time...

I agree with sub6. Ride it till it breaks. All rims dent especially while riding urban. There will be plenty more dents in that rim befor long.:)

Sub6,

Thanks.

I thought as much.

"I don't get out much" would best describe my bike wrenching. I read alot, have decent mech. aptitude, but not much opportunity.

I ride every single day (mostly), but due to having 3 jobs and a working wife and 2 kids (well, not anymore, 11 and 17), it is tough to hook up and ride with people. So, I tend to like in a semi vacuum as far as knowing what stuff breaks on others rides. My LBS likes to sell me new parts, which tends to cut down on the wrenching as well.

You have given me good advice in the past, present, and probably future, and I thank you for that.

Later,

Marc

Bend it back and add more pressure to the tyre if you can to try to reduce the damage next time.

It won't have done the rim much harm the only real problem is the effect on rim brakes.
