Unfortunately, that's the nature of the beasts. I had them for a very short time and no luck on making them not squeal like ....you know?

well, mine don't squeal, but they rub like a two-dollar hooker in a pair of tight jeans. can anyone give me any tips for tuning them so that the pads don't rub? they seem to be off kilter and hitting the rotor at an angle, but i can't seem to adjust them. the rotor is true. is there anyway to adjust the distance between the pads? i'm kinda new to the whole disc brake scene and could use some help.

Loosen the caliper bolts ever so slightly so that you have to use a little force to move them. LIne the caliper up so that they are equal distance front and rear to the rotor. You may need to replace your pads now that they're worn off kilter. Tighten the caliper bolts very slightly and in small increments until the recommended torque is achieved paying close attention that your tightening isn't moving the caliper from where you had it. Now, buy some avids. :)

When I had disc(seems like a long time ago, and thinking back why the hell did I sell my 4banger and where did the $1000 go that I got for it?) I had the same problem with my rear brake. I was always fiddling with it.

What I did(it only worked for a few rides) was slide a business card on each side of the rotor, loosen up the mounting bolts so the ca;iper could move, squeese the brake lever and slowly retighten the bolts. Worked every time, but not for too long.

Your disc tabs may be off center from your rotor, and your Hayes have no way to adjust for this. You could get a shop to machine them correctly, or as has been stated save the money and get some Avids which can adjust to correct alignment problems.
