one: dont start with me about fox sucks, etc... this is a product review! Hope this info is at bare minimum, informative.
two: if i am correct, Fox's terralogic and ProPedal shock stuff is all low-hype versions of the inertia valve technology, currently found on Specialized Epics.
The idea is that the bike wont compress (bob) under rider input, but will compress if it hits bumps. It works very well. But specialized licensed it from fox for a couple years, so they cant call it the same, or make it the same.
2004 Cannondale Gemini 900. With Fox ProPedal Shock. As I have exstensively ridden a 2003 gemini 900 without it, here is what i noticed:
The shock at first, visually, looks like a vanilla r. Like super cheap. I then noticed teh very small ProPedal sticker, and got right on it.
The bike sags, and then almost feels locked out. i went out the door feeling like a hardtail, dropped the curb feeling like a mid-travel FS bike, and then pedaled like a hardtail. I sprinted up and over the lot, and went for the bumpy section, quite messy from the construction. it soaked it all up like a regular shock. but as soon as smooth pavement hit, the shock went firm again. seated, with the seat up, it pedaled smoothly thru all its gears. this was impressive as the 03 gemini bobbed like mad if seated and pedaling hard. As for bigger hits, my trip to McDonalds for lunch could only find about a 5 footer... and it felt just like a regular coil shock. with less of that bouncy boucy feel.
an awesome product for those who want to ride to where they drop, or may be interested in ahving a competitive edge for racing. I would imagine that it would be awesome for a DH race. it would be good for Dirt Jumping too. Heck, its prolly good for everyone, because you'll get less tireed by not bobbing. I was really impressed. obviously, we know nothing of the long term durability... but hey.
I'm contemplating getting one for the Omni testbed, so thats how much i was impressed.
we should being seeing more of it soon, i expect the direct market to be MTX or DS.
