In addition to copius amounts of Guinness, which is pretty much the norm, I've been drinking an awful lot of Stella Artois. Good good stuff. I'm not a huge Newcastle fan, but we do have it on tap at my bar, and occasionally I'll grab a pint of it after work.
Drinking for free rules.

Ballast Point is a homebrew shop gone wild...the guy just opened a commercial brewery a few years after selling supplies out of a freakin' closet, over near University of San Diego. Now, he brews darn good stuff, but I haven't seen it in bottles recently. It's carried by several restaurants, for sure.

What is your preference for beer in the bottle?

How about Pacifico, with a lime wedge jammed down inside it? Well, no, but do you have Corona Lite.?..
In terms of bottled beer, my current favorites are Stone Ruination, Stone AB, St. Stan's Red Sky, Grant's IPA, Ballantine IPA, Pinkus Ur Pils, Pilsener Urquel, Sam Smith's India Ale (dark bottle), Orval ale, Cooper's Stout and Lindemans' Kriek. Throw in a Bohemia or a Humbolt Hemp for good measure.
Newcastle Brown is a great beer, it's just that the clear bottles allow it to be damaged by light (fluorescent, solar) so easily that it's not in top form when sold by the six pack. :monkey:

No.
Actually i have ben buying it from a local conveinance store in La Jolla and it's sold in the 22oz. bomber bottles for $3.25.
I drink alot and i think they are pretty potent.
We should hook up sometime and drink a few.

A keg of Newcastle is a really good thing! I missed the keg at the "opening" party because I went up the night before to get my parts for a build-out I was hot to finish. Hey, I will be all over going up for the Kranked 5 thing. When and Where (I'll go look at the site)?!

Erm???? On tap??? Newkie brown is a bottled beer only isn't it? I've certainly never seen it on tap in England (this includes having spent many hours in pubs in Newcastle)

Really? Madness..... Must be on export only.... perhaps it's because you get enough sun to cause damage through the clear bottle.....
Anyway, preferences for bottled beer, Chimay has to be near the top. Batemens XXXB is a realy good bitter if you don't want something quite as thick or alcoholic as the chimay....
Don't know if you get Theakstons in the US, but if you do then Old Peculiar is an excellent ale - but somewhat addicitive, and causes serious co-ordination issues after about the 8th pint.

here is some interesting trivia....
http://www.newcastlebrown.com/images/pictures/label_inverted.gif
The 1980s saw Newcastle redesign its bottle label and adopt the slogan "The One and Only," an affectionate moniker for the original which was popularized in 1928 by the Newcastle Journal. A new advertising campaign, entitled "The Dog," exploited the North East euphemism of "I'm going to walk the dog" meaning "I'm off to the pub for a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale."
Newcastle Brown's growing worldwide popularity even spurred an Australian brewer to launch a hostile bid for the company in 1988, but Scottish & Newcastle was not about to take this sitting upside down. This attempted seizure, in turn, fostered an intense backlash in Newcastle, with locals passionately rallying behind our "Keep Us on Top!" campaign. As a sign of solidarity, the Newcastle Brown label was inverted until the takeover was quashed.

Newcastle is the only beer I regularly have around the house... About 10 friends and I get a keg of it every year for the Superbowl. Mmm.. Newcastle keg...
Because of this thread, I am going to pick up a 12-pack today.
If you ask me, everyone should drink Newcastle.. The world would be a better place. The only reason people get violent when they're drunk is because they're drinking <choose: bud, miller, natural light, keystone, or insert your favorite cheap beer> and it tastes like someone pissed in it. Who wouldn't get mad if someone pissed in your beer?

So here's my sad story of the week..... Saturday night I went out to the bar with a few of my friends. The only reason I even like this bar is because they have Newcastle on tap, otherwise I would never set foot in the place. But my friends like it, so whatever. I just don't get along with all the Abercrombie wearin' frat boys who are prettier than their ladies. So I walked up to the bar.... and to my dismay the bartender informs me that they removed Newcastle from their inventory. Needless to say I was devastated. I'll never go back there again.

Went to a local resturant a week or so ago, and asked the (apparently inexperienced, but very attractive) waitress what they had on tap. She listed off a bunch, including Newcastle. Sweet.
Ordered one, wincing at the price, but what's better than on-tap Newcastle, right?
She comes to my table with an empty glass and proceeds to pour a bottle into it.
Uhh.. What is unclear about "on tap"?
I questioned her, and nicely expressed my dismay at the exorbitant price charged for something I can walk across the street and buy. She apologized profusely and disappeared for a few minutes. When she re-appeared, she was carrying another Newcastle, then she winked, and proceeded to remove the first one from my tab.
Three cheers for hot waitresses, good service and free beer.

Very common. This happens because the cheap bastards want that "Corona" look and use clear glass bottles. The clear glass provides no protection from light damage, which manifests as the beer being skunky. Some Newcastle drinkers think it's supposed tp be like that!
Take Newcastle on tap or not at all.

Yeah, I figured the clear bottle had something to do with. Would make sense but I kept them in the fridge (which is opened once a week or so....seriously) the whole time. Tap would be great but I doubt I will find that out here.....also the fact that I'm only 20 is a roadblock.

Why are these other beers entering into the Newcastle thread?
Blasphemy!
There were fifty cent drafts of Newcastle all night last night at a local bar... Shot a lot of pool and drank much Newcastle with my girlfriend last night!

Not much happens on these boards that's of any interest to me - it's way 'dumbed down' and hell, i ride (very rarely) a Raven with a Lefty - how bizarre is that? And with morons like burly and n8 and others dominating the boards with their neoconservative dogma, i wouldn't even try to enter the poli forums.
Now, on the off chance you're ever in 93101/117 area, Brophy's is on the list (although, frankly, I don't think they're keeping up the quality that they used to have)

I'm hoping to hit SB after the first of the year, so we'll definatly hook up!!!!! If you'd like, PM me your email addy so I can keep in contact with you. That kinda sucks about Brophy's, however I do like the atmosphere and the bar so I'll still need to go there:p

i had my first newkie in a while, a couple nights ago. was surprised that the podunk bar in sanford NC had it. was even more surprised that the bar up the street had harpoon IPA on draft.
but last night was wine...cakebread chardonnay w/ my lobster ravioli, and some phelps cab later on.... it's fun when the company picks up the tab.
Beersel Oude Geuze tonight for me...
MMMMmmmmmm....
I have some Cantillon Iris and Hansen's Geuze at home.

Stopped at Total Beverage the other night and picked up some Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout, organic ale, and winter welcome, Lindemann's framboise lambic, St. Peter's English Ale, and Celebrator dopplebock. It's going to be a good weekend.
