I just replace my chain last night, it had around 3000 km or it. I had a shimano chain and I bought a SRAM pc 59 this time and used the powerlink for the first time.

I always replaced my chain without changing the cassette but this time 4 gears skips like crazy on my morning commute this am. Will the chain "place" itself with time or does it mean that I have to replace my cassette? What do I look for visually to check if my cassette is worn out?

Thanks

Same problem Deyv. I replaced one on my hardtail and it does not shift the same.

If you can't get it adjusted to where it wont skip all the time, new cassete. You can pick me one up while your at it. ;)

Does that mean I have waited too long to change my Chain,

Is it possible to get a cassette longer than 2 chain? my cassette is 1 1/2 year old and has around 5000 miles on it.

Yes you waited too long. Maybe. There are different schools of thought. I know a few guys who just run the entire drivetrain until it works so badly they replace everything, rings chain and cogs. Others will replace chains when 12 links measure 12 1/16 th inches and they can get 3 or maybe 4 chains per drivetrain. I try for that myself but usually I only get 2 or 3 chains per.

You'll probably need new chainrings too.

I wouldn't replace the chainrings just yet. But the old cassette needs to go.

Thanks guys, since this is for my commuter and that my cassette & chainrings needs to be replaced I just put back the old chain and will let it die and then replace everything.
