But, anybody have a suggestion on a ~$25 scale I can use to weigh parts? Or should I just take them to the produce section of my LGS?

I don't think you'll find anything accurate in that price range. I think the pure humor value of you in the produce section with a XT derailleur and a carbon handlebar makes your idea a prime one :D
check your local head shop. they might have some deals. or if you are in school look in the chem lab.

Head shop?? What's that?
j/k, I think I need a couple other things there - not a bad idea. For a friend, of course.

oldwillknot.com has lots of scales and you may find something in your price range. Lots of weight weenies use the MyWeigh 6001T for the accuracy and decent price.

Walmart, in the cooking section, its used to weigh food, cost me about $30.00 and is accurate. LBS or grams.

I go down to my gym, then stand on the triplebeam scale and weigh in.
then i pick up my bike behind my back and readjust.
that is as close as i need to be.
gram counting is something you can rip off of the manufacturer webpage usually. There is always someone somewhere that 'knows'.
