Ok, ok. I've resisted it for the longest time.

Give me your thoughts....

I need:
cheap (but accurate)
something that can be seen in the dark (indiglo perhaps)

thanks.

Servus!

Polar M52 - choice of champoins. Relatively cheap, all the functions you'll ever need, backlight, stylish.

IMHO, Polar HRM's are superior to any other product out there on the market.

ACHTUNG: HINWEIS!!!! Once you use an HRM, you will find that the info it gives you is SO addictive, you will go NUTS when you excercise without it!!!!

This is a good thing!

Thanks - I'm gonna check out the POLAR.

Look at this one - I just LOVE good customer service stories!

Servus!

FYI - the reason you have to send a POLAR HRM back to POLAR to replace a dead battery is because the device is so accurate that if you do something incorrect during the battery you will throw off the calibration.

Ummm, you don't. I have the M52 and I find that the functions like OwnZone and OwnCal make it much easier for me to track my training. I would live without these functions. I also use this information in concert with a training journal - being able to look back at all of my data makes it easier to chart how my fitness is doing at any point in time.

I really dig knowing my caloric usage and how much fat I have burned (percentage of total calories) - gives me the feeling like I have really accomplished something as opposed to "I just went out and farted around on the bike".

You could get away with a monitor that is as simple as "current HR/time" if you know how to track your output vs. HR. I am lazy and cannot do the math in my head while avoiding the trees so I have a "bells and whistles" version.

The overall point is get one - it matters not if it's cheap or costs thousands. Listening to your body will make you a more effective cyclist.

Hehe...yeah, you're right, I really haven't been around, have I? Well, I used to post a lot at work, but then I discovered that someone was looking at porn on the same computer, told my supervisor, and of course, didn't want to be blamed for it...so lets just say that I've taken a leave from posting at work...and sitting at that chair, and touching that keyboard....if you know what I mean....ewwwwwwwwwwwww

it tracks 100 laps [intervals] I use it swimming, running, and riding
has indiglo, easy to use and set up target zone features, multiple alarms. I use it for my trathlon training, you can get it for about $100

and for the ladies it has an option for jog bra's

we just bought that in the 50 lap version! Actually we bought two. After reading the book, I'm concerned that the frequencies may get screwed up between the two of us - so we may return one :(

Yah, but then don't you have to buy a bunch of bras? I mean, I already have a bunch of bras, but wouldn't I have to buy their "special ones". Just wondering, I already own a HRM and am not looking to buy one.

I use mine without their special overpriced COTTON bra.

Maybe my backlight is broken or the batteries are low. It just doesn't seem bright enough.

I'd call them too, emails are easy to ignore but when you have a person yelling at you it's hard to ignore.:)
