I bought my first mountain bike yesterday. It is a Rocky Mountain "Spice." Here's the 4-1-1:
Frame: Easton Elite
Fork: Marzocchi 23 Air
Rear shock: Fox Vanilla R
Brakes: Shimano Deore
Shifters: Shimano Deore
Gearing: Shimano XT on the rear, Shimano LX on the front
Cranks and rings: Shimano
Pedals: Shimano SPD S15
Rims: Sun CR18
Tires: Maxxis Mofo XC
Seat, handlebars, stem are all Rocky Mountain.
No more borrowing bikes for me! This bike had a $1500 price tag on it. I paid $1069, which I think is pretty close to dealer cost.
I tried out a comparable K2 and a Kona. I did not like the K2. The Kona was a nice ride, but it's components did not compare to the bike I bought. I wanted to try a Gary Fisher, but the shop we stopped in had none left. Since we were a couple hundred miles from home, I did not want to pass up the deal on the Rocky Mountain. Took it out for a XC ride yesterday. It was soooo sweet!
Just wanted to share the news! :) :) Yesterday was a good day.

I also want to mention that yesterday was Baboon's first day on his clipless pedals too - and he did AMAZINGLY well!
Of course, he did have that one obligatory fall while doing nothing in the middle of an open area just waiting around!!
Good day!!

Congrats!
Did you get the bike before or after the Asian-style pork fried product (I can't remember what you called it...General Tso or something like that)?
Now that you have that little sweetie, you need to caress her, and love her, and whisper sweet nothings....and when you get some alone time, show her how much you appreciate how much she does by..........
ummmm.
never mind. Glad you're happy with your new steed!
(I think I have a goal today of making everyone think I'm a freak)

Actually, I bought the bike BEFORE the chinese food. The chinese food was a reward for buying the bike. I wanted to sleep with the bike last night, but the wife wasn't up for sleeping on the couch. When I woke up this morning, the bike was sad. It missed me last night. But I gave it attention this morning and now all is well. :)

Congrats on the bike, and the obligatory fall must be around people to see it...just one of the rules I was told, so I'm passing it around.................

Baboon -
congrats man! I looked at the specs the bike looks awesome! Sounds like your a proud dada...errr....owner :D
And congrats on your success with the battle to learn clipless! I totally agree with the way you are going it - new bike, new clipless system. That's the way to go. This way you get used to the bike and the pedals and you'll be so much more comfortable on the bike since you learned clipless on it.
Good luck!

Awesome. Welcome brother.
Its all down hill from here. You'll sell your car to pay for better parts, ride when you should be working, eat ramen to "upgrade," etc, etc. You gotta love bikes.:D

THANKS for the kind words! Glad you guys all approve! As you can tell, I am very psyched about the bike. Can't wait to get the heck out of work today so I can ride. Lousy office job!!
Man, it's nice to have your own new bike instead of mooching loaners off of everyone else.
:)

That looks like a sweet ride and an even better price. Now go out and dirty that thing up.

Let us know how you like it! I've always been curious about Rocky's "3D Link" suspension design. I don't see any other companies with a similar design, and Rocky has been using it forever (well, ok about 5 or 6 years now). How does it feel compared to an FSR? FSR seems to be the standard by which all others are judged these days.
Other than that - have a blast with it man!!

You should have just kept on seeing how long you could keep borrowing bikes. If you kept that streak current that'd be pretty damn impressive.:) :)
