My question is about the maintenance on the pivot bushings in the rear suspension... like "horst link" type pivots. I picked up a slightly used Ellsworth Id last year and want to keep it working good. I can do maintenance on most of the bike but this is new for me. Are these serviceable, or are the bushings something you have to replace -- like a sealed bottom bracket? Is it something a guy can do himself, or best taken in?

bushings will wear down from friction with a lot of use and will develope slop or make a lot of noise (i.e. GT LTS). Having a spare set on hand is a good idea, and if you bought it used you might want to go ahead and replace them. They're usually easy to replace, you just press them out and press the new ones in. Try to find something the same diameter, like a socket, and rig something up with a vice to press it out. Put a little grease on them and you should be set, i usually use something like Slick Honey.

and that guys pants are falling down BTW. :)

The id uses sealed ball bearings doesn't it?
