Avid mechs disks with Shimano levers?

If I get Avid mechs do I have to have Avid levers?

Avid recommends Avid Speed Dials, but no, you can run whatever brake lever. I run an XTR lever with mine.

any kind of V-brake levers will do fine.

I use Avid speed dial levers w/ Hayes mechs, it makes a noticable difference. They have a broad range of adjustment for cable pull/leverage.

But yeah, any adjustable linear pull lever will work good.

I run Xts & Avids just fine. My XC bike has SD levers and XT Vs - I've never seen the need to swap them out.
