Okelee Dokelee...

After 25 some odd years ridin and fixin my bikes I have a problem..... A stupid question perhaps ( my best type ) but one I know one of ya out there can help me with... The quick and easy procedure to put on a new derraileur (rear) actualy just the adjusting part... I know about the screws and all BUT I used to know a good "routine" that greatly eased the whole affair... " start on the 5th ring and blah blah blah" kinda thing... I screwed with a new rear ( that sounded good :D ) for an hour before I realized... I need a new cable too... And I totaly forgot what I was doin! Help an old guy with a terrible memory out!

Thanks!!!!!!!:D :monkey:

four steps.

1. put der in hardest gear (let out all cable slack) Note: this is backwards on rapid rise, ie you should let derailleur go to easiest gear, and make sure that the cable tension allows it to be directly below or to the outside of the small gear.

2. Adjust high limiter screw (or low on RR) so jockey wheel is lined up directly under the small (or large on RR) cog.

3. shift the derailleur to any middle gear (make sure that the shifter is shifting with every click... If it isn't you need to take up some cable slack) Once you're in a gear that's not the highest or lowest, and the shifter is on the same gear as the der, fine tne the cable tension by lining up the jockeywheel/chain under the gear it is in.

4. go to lowest gear, and adjust low limitewr screw so that the der cannot travel into the spokes. double check that it is good by pressing gently on the der swingarm. If you can push the der farther into the spokes, you need to tighten limiter more.
