View Full Version : stratos s7 oil..
recently my s7 would get little rings of dirty oil after ive compressed the fork after riding in dust or dirt. now i know the old stratos seels were junk and leaked but i have the 2002 seels. it dosnt really bothere me because it only seems to happen after ive been riding in dust and the dust seems to get in the oil on the stanctions after it is compressed and forms little rings of dirty oil on the stantions. i was wondering if this is normal just to kinda get ride of the dust from around the seels, or should the fork leak out any oil at all. im still running the atf in the fork and if i changed it out what should i change it for? ive heard synthetic is plusher? also does anyone use anything to condition their seels? like a drop or 2 of golden spectrum on the stantions?
You're probably just due to change the oil. When little bits of dirt and grit get inside the seals they can allow a touch of oil to pass through. You might be able to flush it out from above by dripping oil down the stanchions and cycling the fork, but I'd say just rebuild the thing. It's not that hard, and ATF is super cheap. The seals are probably fine, but if you still get the rings after the rebuild it's time top replace those as well.
For future reference, if you service the oil more regularly, the seals will last longer. Also, wipe down the stanchions with a cloth and silicon spray often (I'd say every ride, and that goes for any fork company), especially if you ride in dry, dusty conditions, or muddy wet ones.

Most likely the beginning of the end. Any time my S7 started to weep a tiny bit it was game over. Replace the seals and go to synthetic. Apparently its a little easier on seals anyway and I prefered the feel.
thanks fot the advise. i dont really consider it a problem but i think i may go to synthetic anyway. what do you recomend? and for my weight 150lbs? thanks alot

I'd reccomend Golden Spectro oil. Its good stuff. 280ml in each leg should be good for you.
