Marzocchi or Fox for forks and Progressive for the rear.

You might as well ask who makes the best bikes?

The best ones are the ones you have on your bike while you are riding it!

They are all better than they were 5 years ago!:D

I like Marzocchi forks...I have had some good Rock Shoxs too. The only BAD fork I owned was a RST.

I have had a Fox air shox, it was okay.
I have a Noleen shock now, it's okay.
I want a Stratos (it would give me more travel), I hear they are okay.

Get what you can afford that is set up for youe weight and style of riding. Set-up and spring rate are crucial (IMHO) and truley make the difference!

For Forks its the Big 3.
Marzocchi
Manitou
Rock Shocks

and real close to those companies, is Fox Forks.

For Rear Shocks, fox is most popualar becauses thats what almost every company puts on their bike, but it does not mean its the best. For Downhill, Romic or Avalache or 5th Element are new, and good, but not enough people have ridden them yet.

The big question for everybody who posted what they thought was the best is WHY?

You may know the "best" fork or shock, but before you call it the best I'd hope you knew why.

Now you can't expect us to qualify our choices with logic and reason...;)

I like Marzocchi, because there is a great deal of tuning that can allow the fork to be dialed it to a specific riders weight and style of riding.

I also find that Marzocchi's customer service is easier to deal with than Rock Shox as a end-user/consumer.

I also realize that all the major fork companys have great products and like I said previously, the forks need to be setup properly for the specific rider.

Peace

because they are fairly easy to understand so working on them is something even a modest mech can handle. They're build tough so they don't need work every ride, and their customer service is the best. They stand behind their product. They switched me out on top crown for my monster t for free because my flat crown wouldn't fit when i got my new frame. How cool is that?

Rock shox is a whole different game, I dont understand the internals, the stuff is junk anyway, you adjust prelaod by adding washers atop the springs. What a joke. You can't get ahold of them when you need to, then they make you go through a dealer. I will never again buy a Rock shox product. They 're on all the championship bikes because they're light weight not because they're bullet proof like a Monster T. Manitou doesnt stand behind their stuff either. Stratos makes good stuff but they're hard to get ahold of.
