When removing the indicator from a 2001 XT shifter, is there a specific "cap", possibly from Shimano, used to plug the opening? If not, how do most people handle this?

I just dabbed a little bit of silicon sealant in there to keep the dust out. It has never given me any problems in all the dust I ride in.

I use electrical tape, just make sure you clean the area well before applying.

I tried to find a blanking plate for those things a while back. Inasmuch as I could determine, nobody makes 'em.

After a decent crash those things are gone. I never put much thought into fixing or plugging it. maybe i'll do that in the near future.
