This is one of the few good shots I have of me because it is my camera and I'm the one who takes the pics. This was shot by a friend half assed holding the camera sideways, not looking through the viewfinder and he just hit the shutter button kind of guessing. Not too bad for him not trying or even adjusting the aperture/shutter speed.

That's me doing my first DS race. Racing for the WVU cycling team at the Appalachian State race earlier this fall. I did ok, a guy from my own team beat me in the second or third round, probably due to me being wildly out of shape and us having to walk back to the top after our runs. Very nice DS course though and I had a blast.

I'll be the only guy to post a non DH photo :) This is a photo towards the beginning of the state championship cross race and I was leading the group. The race was special for me because it had been a long journey to that point and I ended up winning the race. So I guess on this day I was the best rider, although some race since then have shown that I can be either the best or worst rider. :p

I love this pic for a few reasons. It came out nicely, and shows me concentrating hard on a challenging obstacle. Additionally, I am, as far as I know, the only person to clean that skinny in the configuration seen in the photo (it's since been made a bunch easier).

I am the greatest rider ever because I raced the U.S. Open 3 weeks after I broke two bones in my hand, dislocated 3 fingers, and sprained 2 fingers. I really wanted to race so I threw on a brace and tried to race, I ended up falling on that hand in my race run and rode the rest of the course 1 handed. It was good stuff. I win.

This is my favorite photo of myself "riding" because it's the only one that I've ever seen of myself that's crisp and in focus. Being the photographer means that you don't have many photos of yourself. This was a great day because it was the first day back catching air after an ACL tear + surgery, and it felt great to be riding with a friend who motivates me to go bigger. Here I am, actually hiking up to hit a jump again - something I rarely, if ever do. I am nowhere near the best rider - I hope that doesn't exclude me from winning some new levers!

Hey guys, long time reader, first post ahoy.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x107/BFG161291/DSC_0216.jpg

This is a photo of my first ever race - the 2007 West Australia State Championships in October of that respective year.

I'd been riding DH for 3 months before this, so I guess you could say I was a supernoob, and still am to this day. Fron a photography point of view, there are better photos of me riding, but this one is my favourite - it reminds me of that day so vividly; how I knew nobody and I rode to the race from my house. How I came dead last in my class, and still managed to smile harder than the winners - because after only 3 months of riding I made it to the bottom in my first race. I really couldn't have been prouder of myself.

To this day I am still a slow hack, now on an SGS, but I love rocking up to a new trail, and crawling my way to the bottom, most of the time on the brakes! I have so much fun riding and every ride I learn something new about riding, about my bike and about myself. That's why I believe I'm the best rider, I don't get caught up in the politics of the big races, or which bike is better, or who's cooler or faster - I have a couple of riding buddies and we have a blast.

Wish me luck at this years Champs, it's this weekend!

On this day, as far as I cared, I was the best rider on the planet.

I woke up at first light and dragged my friend to this location to shoot, which she happily agreed to do. The car traffic on the approach was light, the lighting was good, I managed to hold on to control until after I landed, her timing with the shutter was perfect, and the cop who watched it all just told us to get lost.

It came together better than I ever hoped it could, and is my favorite photo from a summer full of great shots.

Edit: Big props to Unreal Cycles, you sold me my first truly great bike. Keep up the good work.

I'm not the best or the worst rider so I'm going to repeat what everyone else has said. I just get out there to have a good time with my mates and do the odd race for a blast. I also share the same name/close enough as Blenki who is ripping it up in the dh scene at the moment haha.

The inaugural run with the new bike trailer. I have had a lot of fun carting the kids around on this. Their eyes are always huge when I show up to pick them up from school on it. They flaunt around, telling all the other kids, "Look at my bike!" This was money well spent...

First freeride comp I ever entered. I had only been riding for 3 months at this time and wasnt very good yet. I was ****t!ng bricks at the top of this drop looking down...its still the biggest drop Ive hit, 18'... to add to my fear I was called to do the first run of the comp, which didnt sit well with me...im shy. With an audience of a couple hundred and my pride on the line I squezed my cheeks gave 3 pedal strokes and hucked....I finished 5th in the comp but 1st, 2nd, and 3rd were sand bagging :disgust1: So really I finished 2nd  thats what makes me the best rider ever.

This is just a lil' picture of me catching super air off a totally friggin' gnar-gnar jump at 7 Springs. I landed in a different time zone and even though I just ate lunch I was still able to enjoy a lovely breakfast burrito with actress Jessica Biel. And you can't hear it (because it is a picture duh) but there were tens of thousands of people cheering me on for this jump. It was nuts. The photo was taken by a zombie Herb Ritts, who was exhumed and reanimated just for this occasion. After ol' Herbie took the shot I put him on my handlebars and did the jump again so he could meet Jessica Biel and take some photos of us chillin' on her balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The three of us drank whiskey and told dirty jokes until Herb started to get ripe so we bid him farewell and pushed him off the balcony and into the ocean. His ghost now haunts the shores of Malibu and on quiet nights you can hear his spectral shutter clicking as he takes photos of the mortal world. As for Jessica and I - well, she was pretty tired of the whole "being famous and rich" thing so we bought a tandem bicycle and rode a wheelie across the country. We now live in a shipping container in the scrubby pine woods of Alabama. I got a job as a "hamburger technician" at Willy's Super Burger Shack making some big bucks. Jessica turned out to have quite a fertile womb and we now have 35 beautiful children who all aspire to be professional downhill mountain bikers. Mountain biking is totally awesome.

This was taken at my last race, where I was seen ripping it up...

...into last place in my category! I crashed fairly horrifically twice on that particular run, which left me battered, bruised and covered in mud of the Welsh variety. I think it's a nice momento of what could have been a good result, had I had more time on the bike and more time to practice.

Of course excuses are excuses, and I only give them to make up for the fact I just can't ride bikes fast down hills. :bonk:

This is Ginger, a triple black diamond trail in Bootleg Canyon, NV. This picture was taken right after I fell and head-butted the rock I'm sitting on. I guess I'm a great rider because; 1) I tried the trail and 2) I survived the trail.

My buddy who took the picture didn't crash once, so I can't really say I'm the world's best rider...at least not that day.

Me on the Snowshoe Pro/Ex DH course back in 2002. I liked racing on that course... some of my favorite memories of racing DH... I didn't finish very well in 2002... mid-pack, I think... I did better in wet 2001 race (7th out of 52)... probably because everything was much sloppier and harder to ride. I was never the fastest DH racer, but I was usually pretty good on very technical (but not fast) courses, so I often did well in races when simply staying on your bike would net a good result.

not me but a pic of my wife. this was taken last year when she was a week PAST her due date. She hadn't ridden in almost two months. but having our daughter swim around inside her was beginning to drive her nuts. she decided to say f it, let's ride. we ended up doing about an 11 mile ride. a week later, our daughter was born.

this pic was taken by the one and only splat. this is just a funny crash picture from when i was fairly new to the sport. i'm pretty sure i just hopped up after i stopped sliding on the ground and had a good laugh about it. the best crashes are always the ones you can laugh about right after.

I think IAB took this pic of me earlier this spring. I think it was my first true mtb ride of 2008. I'm not a very good rider, I don't ride enough to get good, but I do love the sport and I do have a lot of fun on two wheels.

This is an ok photo but it seems like none of the photographers ever get me doing anything really cool. Maybe I just don't ever do anything really cool, but thats not the way it seems to me. Oh well. This is from the NMBS at Wyndham which was one of the best trips I have made in a long time. Rode at Wyndham, down to Diablo for two days, and up to Mt Snow. A really fun week of rideing. :monkeydance:

I generally think I'm a pretty decent rider. Then I see pics like those above and realize I'm a lot closer to the world's worst than the world's best. Regardless, few people have as much fun as I do, and in all the ways that matter, that makes me the best.

I am the worst rider. For one I haven't been on my bike (aside from pedaling to the beach) in quite sometime. For two, on the ride when the above photo was taken @ Porc Rim I didn't realize on the haul up to the rim (about 3 miles if you havent ridden PR) that my pedal was cross threaded. So, after the baby huck pictured my pedal stripped all the threads out of my crank arm. :DEAD:

The ride back was not fun & took nearly 7 hours in the blazing June sun. I ran out of water (started with 100oz.). A dust storm kicked our ass while descending. A wicked storm was blowing in. This ride went downhill quick. Pun not intended.

Made it back just before they closed shop at Poison Spider Bicycles, got a new crankset installed while we went to hydrate.

With the bike fixed & a lesson learned we hit the road the next day headed Keystone.

I'm definitely not the best, and probably not the worst.

This is one of me at Diablo on the Tempest Drop taken by my lovely wife, Tracey. First time seeing it, first time hitting it, and it went well. The lighting was great, too. The only problem was that I was rockin' in with one glove...

Guess that makes me the "BADest rider..."

I am obviously the best because I am the king of the mountain!

I think this photo really captures the moment well...
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1277/1144515071_2ff7c07172.jpg?v=0

Some highlights of this shot:
-The whole process to get this shot probably took 30+ minutes
-I built a rock cairn to use as my tripod so I could get the angle I wanted
-I tried this a ridiculous number of times as the 10 second timer wasn't getting along well with me... and each time I had to push back up on the loose dirt and rock ledges beside the line on this face
-I got a decent shot with just the point and shoot I had in my bag
-I was riding solo, so even more fun... all alone, on top of the world and having the time of my life
-I usually take the photos, so getting a good photo of myself, in focus, decent angle, decent exposure, etc. made me feel awesome
-This line had a hard right at the bottom of this steep face with loose rocks and dust, yet I felt dialed and was nailing it each time
-If anyone is interested, this is on the trail Downtown at Silverstar Resort, Canada
-And really, I'm on top of the world!

So yeah, self-portrait, I spent a long time on it, lugged my big fat bike around, and got rewarded by this shot! That all equals great awesomeness in my books. :D

I am not the best rider, not at all...
This picture is taken on the first extreme bike contest in Skopje Macedonia. I am the first one in my country to own a trials bike and its not that good, becouse i have to promote the sport and encourage the other bikers to ride trials, to teach them the stuff i know and to ride alone in the night becouse there is nobody to show you how its done. So this was my first contest and not as much as a competitor (becuose i was the only one in my category) but as a promoter I won a small price but very precious becouse its the first I`ve won and I`ve shown the macedonian people how fun trials riding is..this doesn`t stop here.. TRIALS FOREVER...

yes it is poorly put together photoshop.

i'm not the best, because im sure people can out race me, out jump me, out anything me. but im not the worst cause it doesn't take me an hour to build up courage, if i want something done i hit it. i really want a dirt jumping frame cause my friend just moved, and he's digging in his backyard ('rents are ok with it), building a 6 pack with a berm and a rhythm section and then a small step up to the beginning again, so i wold love to hit it with a new frame

Here's a picture... but I'm not in it. In fact, I'm playing the most important role in this picture: I'm the man behind the camera.

This day was perfect. Good friends all riding together. A crew of guys I consider some of my best friends, particularly when I'm on a bike and they're on a bike right beside me. I can't quite recall when I've had a better day of riding at this location. The terrain is usually eaten up and dusty, but this day was damp and super tacky. The jumps were in great condition. And the sun was at just the right place to snap some excellent photos. So here's the lip of a jump, and my buddies in the background. Enjoy.

I was so determined to ride that day because it meant ending my 7 month Whistler drought that I went back to my truck and made a splint out of a popsicle stick and electricians tape and got another 10 (very painful) runs in that day!

Picture unrelated, but a cool shot of me from a DH race. Horrible perspective of the jump and what was before what you can see in the picture.

Theres nothing crazy dh in this photo, other then the 66R on my arm that was forsale. This was Augest of 08 at the Gore Fest here in Nova Scotia. An 8 hour endurance event, that basicly shows large amounts of people can get together on bikes, with a not so competitive additude. Its all about good times, beers, crit riding in the rain, and some killer single track.

this is my VERY DESERVING jump @ Eastside High in Greenville SC last year, this is a rare pic because I had the rare opportunity of actually having a friend there w/ a camera (I myself never have one for fear of breaking it - it's HARD to be careful when you want to get high (jumps of course). I am unemployed now & could REALLY USE some cool parts (+ a job if you got any ideas). Thanks for the opportunity to post...
PS: I am the best because even though $ is low now I still ride the same route around town everyday (travel costs are high @ this time) w/ the same excitement & glee I had as an 11 yr old on my BMX bike (38 now).

I suck at jumping. This was my first time giving it a go. Kept coming up short and smacking the rear wheel on the lip. Haven't really tried much jumping since.

drop that expedition pack & you might take off:brows:

I Did Ok, A Guy From My Own Team Beat Me In The Second Or Third Round, Probably Due To Me Being Wildly Out Of Shape And Us Having To Walk Back To The Top After Our Runs. Very Nice Ds Course Though And I Had A Blast.

This picture is me on my old Haro Extreme X7 dropping a ladder bridge on the area known as Flightline in San Diego. Flightline was dozed over in 2006-7 to expand the industial park surrounding it. You can see the first phase of this expansion behind me in the shot. This was THE best spot to ride within a few miles of the coast in San Diego County, gone forever now.

myself riding the Kingdom trails Vt. in October 12th.

I'm a very good technical rider. I'm always ahead of my friends in the descent. I'm good because I acquired a lot of abilities while I was young and racing in BMX. I don't fear. When climbling... well I'm ok, keeping the pace. Recently I'm in really good shape, my friends are sayiong I'm on fire :happydance:

I'm an OKAY rider, i could be better if my stamina was up to par. I tend to run out of fuel really quick (half way down the mountain) and the rest of the way i sit down and relax my muscles.

I'm also known as Fashion Dave, i may not be the best rider, but i look good doing what i can.... lol

I'm working on getting my stamina up to speed! :-)

this is my favorite picture of myself riding because i crossed this finish line after eating it so hard in my race run and falling over myself in a rockgarden. my bars were so crooked that i whipped off the stadium jump through the finish line. thats why i love this picture, crashed super hard, did 90% of the race run with bars so sideways that they were over my top cap of my fork on one side. finished the race 45 seconds after the leader too after taking a ton of time with the wind knocked out of me on the side of the trail. haha.

I had raced DH for about 6 years straight. Never got out of the sport class. Can I ride well? Yes I can. Can I do technical? Yeah. Can I go big? Not anymore after two blown knees

About my pic...I am a SORBA member and assistant trail director for the Blankets Creek trail system in Woodstock GA.

One of our brother groups buikt a trail around Raccoon MT in Chattanooga TN. I had been wanting to get up and ride their 18 miles of trail they had built. Most times our gang went up, I was either hungover or otherwise indesposed.

I did finally get to ride these marvelous trails and the ride as I had been looking forward to was

Definitely the worst rider out of the group but my bike has an auto-pilot feature so I usually land rubber side down, LOL. Lots of GREAT pics! But my friend is a pretty good photographer!!! Drop out at Post Canyon, Hood River, OR on a rather black and white kinda day ;-)

at Plattekill mountain there is this trail called "hardcore". I've shown many riders this trail while they were riding the mountain, but was never able to ride it myself. I stupidly suggested that it be used in one of the series races. Well it was included in this past August's race. After watching riders trying to figure out the lines and crashing, I gave it my first attempt and made it. In fact I made it every practice run and my race run making the podium for the first time at Plattekill this year. Now when I take riders on "Hardcore" they follow me. At 50 years old I'm still learning how to ride a bike.

My race run on hardcore.

This is like, the only picture I have of me because I'm a lone rider, so no one can take pictures of me. So, this is a video still. Basically, I'm bailing out on a double.
I'm the worlds best rider, though, because I stay motivated to go out and ride whenever it's possible and then crash some more, but still have fun.

This photo was taken october 12 on my first race after about 9 months without riding my bike due several injuries and Family problems this year. Could not even pedal on my race runs because my lack of shape, but flowing the track and keeping my speed took me to a 8th place in Elite category.
After having to drop all the riding to be doing company on my mom Hodking lymphoma treatment i enjoyed That riding weekend like no other before.
