Whats up Fellas =)

Here's some pics of what we've been building in Queens. We have to get permission for everything we do so it's all legit/legal.

This is a free Public park so we have to make things safe and on the easy side for now.

Some images are kinda large. Scroll sideways...

Thanks guys =)

We built everything by hand. No heavy equipment...

The dirt in the whole park is basically clay and topsoil. We don't have to import any in, so sweet!

Once we're done with the racetrack. We'll be starting a slopestyle run(jumps, rollers, berms) with optional freeride lines(rocks, drops, logs). We have a huge bowl depression to build in, sick!

Whats up Tim =)

Very nice work guys!

Hopefully I will be able to get up there at some point and sample some of that trail goodness you all created.

It's a very important project as the work looks amazing from the pics and that it was all done legally at a public park.

It will be a great model for other parks to use - hopefully some in NJ will take note and get something going.

If you don't mind I'd like to show this link around to some of the more local NJ sites - maybe it will stir up some excitment for a setup like this down here.

Beautiful stuff. If you get a chance could you do a little write-up on how you got it approved? Is the land city, county, state, private. This kind of info could be really helpful for others interested in doing similar projects. Thanks!

Also, what the hell is this and where do I get one? :)

maestro would know more but mike vitti is president of http://www.climbonline.org/
also manning that chainsaw. he's been petitioning local gov for years. he helped get the highbridge project in nyc done too. he's really put the time in attending countless meetings to get this approved.

*side note they actually approved mx bikes initially haha. they didn't understand it was BICYCLES. goes to show how out of touch they were and how mike is a master negotiator!

since cunningham was started, mike got permission to build at a few other places on long island. the problem is we need more man power because things are starting to get backed up. the queens stuff should be done by now.

Thanks Fellas!

Don,
Link it up! Hopefully you can make it up here soon.

jdschall,
That attachment is called the logwizard. Its basically 3 or 4 planer blades that the chainsaw spins. Setting the blades is very important. To much blade will bite and skip along as you cut. To little of a blade, it'll just sit there not cutting and waste your time.

Their home site seems to be down for some reason...here it is tho...
http://logwizard.com/

You can use google to find a "cached" version of the site.

Here's a link to a place that offers it...
http://www.aloghomestore.com/tools-chainsaw.shtml#Log%20Wizard

I work with Mike Vitti(President of CLIMB). He's the Project Manager/Coordinator and gets all the permission for what we do. He's been going to meetings for years with local parks department establishing a relationship. Not only does he have to convince the parks department but also other local groups that have concerns about the park.

I'm the Technical Trail Director. I handle the design/layout of jumps, drops, berms, rollers and anything beyond "basic" singletrack.

I'll let Mike know about this thread here on Ridemonkey. Maybe he'll chime in...

Here's a link to CLIMB's site...go to the trail building section of the forum. We post updates there and you could ask questions.

Thanks again for all the good feedback!

Awesome! I'm definitely down to help build
Anything further east on the island in Nassau or even Suffolk?

Nothing is set in stone but The V.A Hospital area may allow us to build jumps/tables and a pumptrack. MTB trails have already been sanctioned so we are close.

The Greenport Skatepark has contacted Mike V. and has shown interest in adding jumps to their facilities.

There's other parks that are becoming more open minded toward bikes but we don't have enough help with meetings and building.

Anyone can become a CLIMB member and support what we are doing. You can go to climbonline.org for more info.

Here's what we got done this week...We got a little more done than what the pics show. We worked into the night.

Decided to tweak the first straight a little. Made the 2 small rollers into one big one.

Short Straight to Second Berm

These rollers will lead into 2 berms... One old one that is there now which allow riders to loop the middle section of the track. The other berm will continue the main track to the right. Another 180 berm...
