View Full Version : Damaged Sprocket Question

Came down hard on a big a$$ boulder yesterday and slammed my front outer sprocket on it. Later I noticed one tooth had bent over and another broke half off. I also noticed 1 or 2 more that looked to be damaged in the past and just wore smooth.

The question is, when is it time to replace a sprocket once it's worn so much and has certain damage ?

The bike is a Rockhopper Comp FSR if that should matter.

I think a bunch of bent and broken teeth would be a good reason to replace a sprocket. You should replace it with a bash guard.

I concur with the bashguard idea... unless you actually use your big ring.

And if you do use your big ring, at least get yourself a rock ring. They aren't quite as strong as bashes, but it'll help prevent broken teeth.

If it's a standard sprocket for a triple crankset some of the teeth are significantly smaller to aid in shifting...

They look broken but they're not..

Just thought i'd ask ;)

If you just keep at it, soon all the teeth will be worn down and you'll have a free bashguard already installed!
