what do you think cats, which provides better upper body protection , both is just a bit over kill , just been thinking about it and would like some input

chest protector = rock deflector , 661 etc ..
pressure suite = 661 , fox , rock garden etc ......

I would think this is an easy answer. Pressure suit, as in full upper body (shoulders, chest, back, and kidneys) Obviously will have more protection than just a chest protector.

Agreed...chest protectors are far more comfortable but do not offer the protection. They are really meant for motocross to protect from roost. I would go for more protection because MTB deals with big rocks!

I have a 661 pressure suit 2007 that I wear when im gonna go more reckless than normal. The chest protector isn't that strong its just lightly padded, but it does have plastic spine protection and some nice plastic shoulder armor.

It's pretty breathable and it doesn't get in the way.

The rock gardn one is probably a bit heavier but it has a plastic chest guard, it also has a water pack add on which is neat for the hotter weather.

I was trying to decide between those two options as well and I ended up going with the rockgardn trailstar and a pair of standalone elbow guards (fox launch). I feel like the full mesh suit of the pressure suit style armor sets would be too constrictive and would get hot in the the summer months. Right now I love the cross between mobility and protection I get from my current setup. The trailstar has hard plastic shoulder pads, chest pads, and spine protector. There's a bunch of softer padding on it as well.

I tried th rental chest protectors they have at diablo and didn't like them. They came down too far on the torso which made them sort of uncomfortable. The trailstar doesn't go down as far but I can live with the lack of protection on my stomach and lower back for the tradeoff of added comfort.
